2 1/2 and not speaking clearly?

My son is 2 1/2 and doesn't speak very clearly...I wanted to hear from others moms with 2 year old boys. My daughter was such a fast learner I can't use her as a basis. He often says nana for banana, gink for drink, foobah for football, bich for fish...and he doenst say "me" or his name..I asked before and got alot of non-parent ones, like read to him, flash cards, don't baby talk....DAH!! I just want to see if any other little boys are doing this. And he goes to the dr on Monday...just kinda curious where he stands, if it's even something I need to get looked into more. Thanks! :)

my son is 2 1/2 and speaks pretty clear, ther a re a few things that i have to have him repeat..his "r" is pretty non existent..... if your son has a large vocabulary and its just not clear he probably needs speech therapy..maybe his tongue is a little fat, or he may have a natural lisp..I'm not a professional.. i had a problem saying "s" words until i was 5..I went to speech therapy for like a week fixed the problem and I can articulate just fine as well as do all kind of foreign accents well...I wouldn't worry abt it till he's 4 and then if he needs it simple speech therapy

My son is 2 years and 3 months old.

Its funny because he also says nana for banana !.. and also a couple other words that are not so clear ( he does not prononce every letters correctly like ju for juice, meh for milk, gnite for good night, moh for more ... etc...)

I am not totally sure if it's normal or not. But our family doctor said our son would be slower than average because he hears 3 different languages everyday at home ( English, French and Arabic). Of course, those tricks of reading books and no baby talks is true, and just like you ive been trying really hard to teach him how to talk correctly and more often. But it's just slow.

I see some improvement with the : What's your name... His name is Hussain but we nicknamed him Hassouni. And he says his name is Hanini. Close, but not there yet. He counts to three, saying one, two, dee ... Hm .. yeah. He does a lot of other things that are very smart and he is getting on very well on other skills. But language is slow. So you are not alone there in the world hehehe... Good luck tho, keep talking to him!!

    Hi There,

I understand how concerned you are about your child's language development. However you must remember that all children develop in their own way, some talk or say more than other children. This just means you need to encourage your son in his language development.

I would recommend you reading the article called "Tips to improve language development in children". This provides you with strategies that you could do to help improve your sons language and speech development. The link is: http://www.aussiechildcarenetwork.com/language_dev...

I hope this helps you out!

    Good Luck!
