That all depends on where you live or want to live in the coutry. Teaching once seemed like a secure profession, however, with the economy now there have been major cuts. Many teachers have lost their jobs because of school closings and consolidation. Also because there is only one art teacher per school compared to dozens of other teachers the chances are not as good of finding a job the first year out of college. Some art teachers even teach at more than one school. Most teachers teach for a long time so art teacher turn over rate is low. Pay is low too.
So if you are living in an area that has art animator industry which I am assuning would be on the coast, then I would go for that.

It's an interesting question. First you have to get a job. There are probably more opportunities in the animation field, depending where you are, but many animation jobs are project based, which means that once a project is finished, you don't have a job any more and have to look for a new project. This means that you don't get any real benefits or security until you're established and sought after in your field. Some
film studios offer full time work, but there is a lot of competition and you might have to relocate. If you GET a job as an art teacher in a public school the pay might be lower, but once you have tenure the security and benefits will be much better.
