Where would you look for dog shows or field trial information in your area?

I am currently looking to get involved in showing my three year old Lab in a beginner dog show or field trials. I am young and would love to get involved in showing my future and need to begin somewhere. Jake is wonderful dog and I figured when better to get started then now with my current dog. I just don't know where to begin. Any information? Thanks.

    Here's where to go:

    FDSB: http://www.americanfield.com/Pages/7_15_FIX.pdf

    NAVHDA: http://www.navhda.us/TestSked/ListUpcoming.asp?W_M...

    AKC: http://www.akc.org/events/static/index.cfm?request...

I'd check out all of them...just show up at an event and ask how to get involved or call your local chapter and ask for information. If there is a local Labrador Club (http://www.thelabradorclub.com/subpages/club_searc... ) they can help you get started, as well.

Check with local breed clubs in your area- even if it isn't your specific breed there may be breed clubs that focus on something like herding, or sight hounds, for example. Also, you can also participate frequently at shows that breed clubs are holding even if you don't have that particular breed.

(For example- if the Long Island Collie Club is holding a show- it will most likely be open to all breeds for the agility event- not just Collies.)

If you look on the AKC website as well there are listings of Clubs and Shows.

If you are in the US you can look on www.infodog.com and find shows in your state. However there really aren't any beginner shows unless you are under 18 and then you can gain experience by showing as a junior handler. There are always alot of labs at shows and if you didn't get your lab as a show prospect it would probably be a waste of money to show him in regular classes.

You can look at local papers, Google Dog Show and put your zip code, it helps to narrow the search. You can ask dog groomers, vets and maybe pet stores in your area.

If there are dog parks or other areas of dog interests you can ask around there. Are there any training classes that you know of?

Look for a local breed-specific guild. That should be able to get you started.
