Using Lucifer as a name?
So I always liked "Luke" as a name, but by itself it's pretty blah. And I like names like Christopher cause of the "fer" sound at the end, but I would not like him to be called "Chris". So I like Lucifer, it has the sound I want, and I could use the nickname I want. But people don't like it cause Lucifer is lie the Devil or something.....I don't know, it's just a good name if you ignore that fact. What do you guys think?

There are actually Christian saints named Lucifer so it is not the name "the devil." And unless you are Christian, the name Lucifer is just a Latin name. And in Judaism, Lucifer doesn't even exist. Christianity made him up. Also, traditionally, the name Lucifer in the Bible referred to Nebuchadrezzar. Not the devil.
But Luke isn't really a name for Lucifer because it's pronounced Loo-si-fer. Not Loo-ki-fer.

I don't like Lucifer because Lucifer was the angel that betrayed God and became what we now know as Satan. I can't get over that fact, as will most people. Go ahead and name your child that if you want, but know that you risk taking a lot of crap from Christians and other religious people. I, personally, would never ridicule someone for a name, and if I heard of a child named Lucifer, I would assume the parents just weren't religious and liked the name. But I know some Christians that would downright spit on your child. They are that hypocritical and that hardcore. Most won't, but a few might. Probably going to get a lot of thumbs down for this, but I'm just stating what I think/know.
Christopher is a classic name. A lot of people nowadays are using the nickname Topher instead, which I think is really cool.
Other names that end in "fer" that you might like:
Keefer or Kiefer
Menefer
Rafer
Seifer
Sofer
Other names that could have "Luke" as a nickname:
Luca
Lucas
Lucian or Lucien
Lucio
Lucius
Louis or Luis
Luken or Lucan
Lulani
Luther
Lux
Luz

Lucifer means "Morning Star". Before Creation, the Devil was an angel named Lucifer. But after Lucifer's fall, he's called Satan.
So actually, Lucifer isn't a horrible name. He was just an angel of God. Who is now the Devil.
Personally, I don't like the name, but it's the sound you want, so go for it.

I think you should be able to name your child whatever you would like. You have that right as their parent. Whether or not bible thumping bigots choose to dislike you or your child for their name is their own problem and you probably don't want to associate with them in the first place. I agree that Lucifer is quite a nice name, and i think you should go for it

While I agree that you have the right to name your child whatever you want. You have to remember the fact that your child will carry this name for the rest of his life. how will this name affect him emotionally, socially? In society, the name has such negative connotations, maybe not to you, but to other people. Let's face it: KIDS ARE MEAN! he will most certainly get picked on and made fun of. If that is something that you are willing to deal with, thats fine, but will your child be able to deal with all the ridicule? I'm not trying to discourage you, just something to think about before you make your final decision.
