1993 Mitsubishi Check engine Light?
I just purchased a 1993 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX. It runs perfectly but the CHECK ENGINE light stays on. It has been my experience in the past that this was caused by the emission control valve which recycles crank case vapors. Cleaning or replacing this valve turns the light off. sometimes there is an emissions control computer which also must be reset. Is my knowledge out dated? Are there other solutions to this problem? I do not want to turn off the light without identifying and correcting the problem.

Check the air diverter valve that puts fresh air into the exhaust system, as it may not be functioning properly.

you need to plug in a diagnostic scan tool to read the code, unless you can find information on how to read it off the dash board as a code number and then to translate that into a cause. Emission control valve huh? ok PCV valve? positive crankcase ventilation valve? that is not electronic? or EGR valve? exhaust gas recirculation valve? The simple fact is it could be any code from any sensor or combination of, it may not even be a present fault, but an old one stored in the memory. My question is if you can't read the code either with a tool or off the dash, how on earth do you intend to turn the light off???? and please please don't say by taking the bulb out. take it to a profesional.
