A resent News item on Yahoo attributed the sinking of the Titanic to "the conversion from sail ships to steam meant there were two different steering systems." I am doubting this because both were steered by wheel and I see no reason for the steering to be reversed. Can anyone substantiate this claim?

I just purchased a 1993 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX. It runs perfectly but the CHECK ENGINE light stays on. It has been my experience in the past that this was caused by the emission control valve which recycles crank case vapors. Cleaning or replacing this valve turns the light off. sometimes there is an emissions control computer which also must be reset. Is my knowledge out dated? Are there other solutions to this problem? I do not want to turn off the light without identifying and correcting the problem.

Background: I bought the Starex while it was in a shop where it had been undergoing extensive repairs for several months. The brakes shoes and pads had been replaced as part of these repairs. The brakes are not ABS (per. EDSA Hyundai) Not the shop in question.

When I test drove the van, I noticed that the brakes required a greater distance than normal to come to a complete stop. And that more brake peddle pressure than normal was required.

After having the brakes cleaned did not improve the braking, the head technician assured me that the hydro vacuum unit was not working. I had it replaced, But, it had no effect.

The master brake cylinder was then rebuilt. When this had no effect, It also was replaced. This as well, did not improve the braking performance.

I was charged PHP 16,000 for parts plus more for labor and the problem was not resolved. Needless to say, I have no confidence that this shop (Wind Tech, Legazpi City) has any idea how to correct the problem.

I have seen several websites advertising products to do this with prices ranging from $60 US to more than $1,000. Some seem simple others more complex. Also their claims are as wide ranging as their prices.

Are such devices really practical?

If all levels of law enforcement aggressively enforced Immigration Laws of the U.S. instead of leaving it to the Boarder Patrol and Immigration Service, our boarders would be a lot more secure. We would not be paying millions or billions of dollars for medical and social services for Illegal Aliens who are in fact breaking our Laws by entering the country illegally. There may even be a reduction in Homeland Security costs.

This is the only group of criminals that get a free pass from state and local police.

No other country I'm aware of grants citizenship as a birthright if at least one parent is not a citizen of that country. This should also be the law of our land.

I think it is time for all who agree to start writing our Congressional Representatives to express our views. I have. Internet postings will never get their attention but if they get enough constituent mail, they may give the problem some importance.

Neither I nor my ward now live in the Texas county where the Guardianship was. filed. Is the Guardianship still valid? What must I do to terminate the Guardianship? My ward is my older brother. He is a 100% service connected disabled. His medical needs are met by the Veteran's Administration. I am Guardian of his Person and Estate. I manage his finances via the Net. Reporting to the Court, Social Security Administration, Veteran's Administration and the Defense Accounting Agency is getting to be a pain. My ward is in a nursing home and I am out of the country. My nephew is in the area where his father is and is able to see that the nursing home meets his needs, However, the nephew is not allowed to be a Guardian due to a 20 yr. old conviction. I am sure he is up to taking care of his father and he is willing to do so.

I am looking for a Visa, Master card or other widely accepted card . that has no annual fee and does not charge a fee for purchases made outside of the United States. All my current cards (Chase and Bank of America) are now having these fees.

Most of my purchases are made in the Philippines.
