Could Xanax help me sleep?

I have severe anxiety about sleeping. I think about sleeping all day and worry that I won't be able to sleep so when it comes time for bed time I nearly have a panic attack when I get in bed. Then I don't sleep. I've used Ambien and Lunesta and neither work on me. I go for days without sleeping and it's so miserable. When I finally do miraculously fall asleep it's only for a few hours. I know Xanax is addictive, but can it relax me enough to help me fall asleep at night? What does it feel like after you take it?

I have experienced exactly what you do.

I do use xanax for the past 3 years, however I dont use them all the time. I try to limit them when I dont need them.

I had a fear to sleep and was getting so worked up that I couldnt. However its upnormal.

I would suggest that you try what i will say for 2 weeks and then you see how it works from there..

Make sure that you join a yoga class and or the gym. That you exercise atleast for an hour daily. Then take a hot shower at night and take a 0.5mg xanax an hour before you want to sleep. Take a book or try to read a magazine so that you dont have light affecting your eyes that comes from the computer or tv. and make sure that you dont eat something heavy and that you dont drink tea or coffee as caffeine can restric you from sleeping.

Make sure that when your eyes feel tired, you turn off the lights and start thinking of tomorrow.. this will help yourself stop being anxious about falling asleep... .5mg of xanax will make you pretty sleepy and in the first days, they will make you pretty lazy and sleepy.. if you like to sleep throughtout the day, minimise this to an hour exactly.. not more as it will prevent you from sleeping at nights.

Also, if you can talk about your fears to get to sleep with a professional it will help.

Make sure that if you take a .5mg xanax, that you stay a day without it... then you can take one on the 3rd day, and make sure that its not a pill to sleep and that its chemicals... so dont overdue it... be responsible and sweet dreams :) xxx

If you really are messed up like you say, then Xanax can be a wonderful thing. It does relax you, what it does for me is stops my mind from racing, stops unwanted negative thoughts from occuring in my head. In essence, you live in the moment, not in your own mind. It will in fact give you a good nights rest. Talk to your therapist about it. The thing is, they will probably start you off on .25mg doses, which is very low. A xanax bar contains 2mg of alprazolam, the effective ingredient in xanax. If you can find any around your neighborhood, one of these every now are sure to get you through the tough nights of sleepnesness and anxiety.

yes, it can help relax you so that you can fall asleep

you need to keep on a routine schedule, and if you still can't fall asleep, get out of bed and do something until you get sleepy again. Don't lay there and toss and turn.

use some relaxation techniques, try a small red light (like a night light) in your room.

Also, don't exercise too close to bed time and try drinking a glass of milk an hour or so before bed

Yeah i know there used for that SPECIFICALLY. Also that it makes you drowsy, says right on my prescription bottle. Definately heard people say it makes you sleepy! Only little doubt is if they were referring to Xanax, but half of benzo users are on them and there were alotttt of people.
