Why do Protestant Christians add to the Holy Bible?
Why do you say Jesus had brothers and sisters when the Holy Bible says different?
Because of one verse taken out of context. The majority of you fail to realize who is being spoken of in the verses below.
James and Joses are in Matthew, Mark, and John's Gospels referred to as the sons of Mary the wife of Clophas (Matthew 27:55, Mark 15:40, and John 19:25). Many early Church historians believe that Clophas and Joseph, Jesus' foster-father, were either brothers or cousins. Regardless, it does refer to Mary the wife of Clophas as the sister of Mary the mother of Jesus.
We can cross Simon off the list because Mark 3:18 tells us he is a Canaanite, "And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite..."
Jude, we are told in Jude 1:1, is the "servant of Jesus Christ and the brother of James."
"Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" Mark 6:3-4
"Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us?" Matthew 13:55-56

@Paul: Actually, it could be a LOT more clear. Scripture could say Mary had other children. Scripture could identify Mary as the mother of someone other than Jesus. Scripture could identify someone other than Jesus as her child. None of that ever happens, though.
@Tigerkitten: She is saying they are not the siblings of Jesus in the sense of sharing descent from Mary, wife of Joseph.
@Bibigirl: Are you reading the same question that I am? She is saying that James and Joses are the sons of Mary, wife of Clophas (as opposed to Mary, wife of Joseph), not Jesus.

We're normally accused by Catholics of taking away from the Bible due to not having the apocrypha included! Well, could I just point out that we have not added anything to scripture, but our interpretation of some verses is different to yours. That does not constitute 'adding' anything.
Regarding Jude, it's worth noting that his name is another form of the Hebrew name Judah (Greek 'Judas') and there was, in the NT, Judas the apostle, but not Iscarriot of course (Lk 6:16, Acts 1:13) and Judas the brother of the Lord (Mat 13:55, Mark 6:3). The latter is more likely because Jude (Judas) does not claim to be an apostle and in Jude verse 17 separates himself from their company. He calls himself the brother of James, and James is spoken of as a brother of Jesus in Mat 13:55, John 7:3-10, Acts 1:14, 1 Cor. 9:5 & Gal 1:19. Jude and James did not personally advertise their sibling connection with Jesus, not wishing to obtain special privileges as members of the household of Joseph and Mary.
So I hope you can see that the view does have scriptural support and is not a case of 'adding' anything to scripture. It is a matter of interpretation of scripture.

If Mary had other children as they claim then why did Jesus, just before His death, have John take her into his home? Mary's husband, Joseph, at this time was already dead, and her only son, Jesus was about to die. She was homeless. If Mary had other children as they claim then one of the other brothers would have taken her in, and John wouldn't have had to.

Are you not reading the same English that I am? The Bible clearly states that Jesus comes from the line of David, that is the family line of Joseph, not some Clophas. His genetic heritage if from Abraham, down to Joseph and not Mary's side of the family. Open your eyes, put down the lies. Now I suppose you think a woman in those days having a child and marrying another, not Joseph (whom she was espoused to) would have remained a virgin. Your story is so far out there even I can't keep up with the flaws. If this were the case God would not have told Joseph to marry her.

Perhaps Joseph was a widower who had several children from his first wife. Mary becomes their step-mother and Jesus their step-brother.

I think the problem lies in their interpretation of what is written and the fact that all bibles in print don't say it exactly the same way, so it leaves it open for human interpretation which leads to errors and flaws.
I agree with you my friend.
Great to see you hope all is well.
Love and God bless you,
Kate
BTW I loved your answer for the question concerning our Lady and sex.

Matthew 12:40 six: Jesus grew to become into nonetheless chatting with the folk while his mom and brothers arrived. They stood exterior, asking to communicate with him. 40 seven: between the folk there suggested to him, "look, your mom and brothers are status exterior, and that they elect to communicate with you."

How does taking a passage at face value amount to "adding" to the Bible? I don't see anything in the Bible about the Immaculate Conception or the Assumption. Is this not a Catholic pot calling a Protestant kettle black?

Almost all serious biblical scholars find differently, and they are free from both Protestant and Catholic dogma. Jesus had siblings.

Wow, I fear you are deluded. Read those verses again. Very clearly, Mary the mother of Jesus also had other children. The Scriptures could not be more clear. Read the contexts. Set aside the deceptions of Rome. Come away from the dark side, if you dare.
Miss- READ Mark 3.31-35....Then His mother and His brothers arrived, and standing outside they sent word to Him and called Him. A crowd was sitting around Him, and they said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.” Answering them, He said, “Who are My mother and My brothers?” Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers! “For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
This was certainly Mary the mother of Jesus...the crowd told Jesus that HIS mother and brothers were looking for HIM.
