Can someone give me a link to a Graphics Card under 100 that takes power from the Power Supply not motherboard?

That has the separate cable that plugs into the power supply instead of getting power through the motherboard. My friends motherboard doesnt support enough power for his power supply and his graphics card over loads his computer.

Update:

His Power Supply is 450W

The Graphics says to have atleast a 250W.

His motherboard was originally on a 200W Computer.

He turns it on with all the new parts in and it doesnt do anything. Takes new parts out and it turns on.

Dell made a desktop with a PCI Express x16 slot that couldn't pull up to 75W of power through the motherboard. It would only work with their ATI X300, which was a very low wattage model.

All PCI Express graphics cards can pull up to 75W of power through the motherboard slot. If they need more than that, they use a dedicated PCIe power cable.

Is your friend just adding the Power Supply and Video card, or are they swapping out other components as well? Any graphics card specifying only 250W on the Power supply is a fairly low end card.

One common mistake is to update the CPU without careful review. Many newer socket 775 processors will fit in old boards, but neither the motherboard nor the BIOS will support the new cpu.

Basic graphics cards can operate using just the power supplied 'via the motherboard' i.e. through the PCI, AGP or PCI-express port. More power hungry cards have additional connectors which give them power direct from the power supply, but they are still getting some of their power through the motherboard.

Your friend may well need a better power supply.
