Sore throat: Should I go to the doctor?

My husband had a strep test a week ago and it was positive.

Now, for the last two days it hurts me to swallow, and it seems to be getting worse tonight. It doesn't just hurt to swallow; it hurts all the time. I have no other symptoms of strep though. Should I go ahead and go to the doctor or wait and see if I have other symptoms first?

Normally I would wait, but I'm hesitant to now because I have finals next week and feeling terrible this coming week would not be a good thing.

Thanks in advance!

Usually when you have strep, you know it. Its not like a regular sore throat--you feel like you are going to die. Look at your husband. Is he in complete misery and unable to get out of bed?

This is what it feels like: The flu + sore throat x 100 = strep throat.

But if he has it you might have been exposed too. You will know you have it. Going to the doctor will ease your mind--especially with the stress of finals coming up.

I get sore throats frequently and have been unfortunate enough to have had strep 4 times (twice in in the fall of 2006)!

Here is my sore throat cure. I realize these sound a little weird but I have tried a lot of things and these consistently work.

1.) Ibuprofen numbs the pain and swelling.

2.) Wear scarf or turtleneck to keep your neck warm to speed healing (I know its a pain in the summer but it really helps--especially when you sleep).

3.) And lastly, eats some potato chips--chew thoroughly. The chips contain a little bit of salt and oil to lubricate and disinfect your throat. (I got this tip from my cousin who is a professional opera singer.) Chips work better than any throat spray I have ever tried.

If you don't feel significantly better by tomorrow morning, call your doctor.

    Feel better soon!!!
