No, but I do think that it needs a true National Governing body like gymnastics , track & field, weightlifting, etc.
Basically 1 company w/ many subsidiaries control almost all aspects of cheer-leading including hosting over 2 dozen national competitions.
Yes I think that there needs to be safety measures in place to protect the participants, but having it declared a sport is not the way to achieve this.

Cheerleading is most definitely a sport. People think of cheerleaders as shallow and superficial, and they aren't, though some are. I have been a cheerleader since 5th grade, and I am going into 9th grade currently. I've always considered cheerleading a sport. It takes determination, strength, ability and you have to be able to pick up the move quickly. How many people on this planet can throw a full perfectly? Not many. Competitive cheerleading is amazing to watch. It takes a whole year to learna routine and perfect it and you have 2:30 seconds to show the judges what you've worked so hard for. In football you do the same play over and over and to be honest it can get boring. With cheerleading you can add so many different moves and cheers it's amazing. To see stunts where girls that are being held up are holding up other girls, you have to think how many falls it took to get there. Anyway, my answer is yes, cheerleading should most definitely be a sportt. Like I always say "You think cheerleading is so easy? Then you go learn and perfect a 2:30 second routine, don't fall out of any of you're stunts or tumbling passes, take first place, and then get back to me." Cheerleading is a sport. End of story.

Cheerleading is definitely ,100% a sport. I know I'm biased because I'm a cheerleader but I don't get how people can even debate it. We work just as much and just as hard as any other sport. We're at that school longer then the football players. We sweat, are strained, and pushed to the limit every practice. "Football players lift weights, we lift people. What one sounds more extreme?" "If you drop something in football it's only a ball, if we drop our catch it's a girl from more then a couple feet in the air." If gymnastic is a sport so is cheerleading because to get anywhere in competition you NEED tumbling. Pshh Golf is considered a fricken sport for crying out loud, and yeah it takes skill I admit and hard work but u don't need the endurance like you do for competitive cheerleading.Cheerleading IS a sport! No questions asked.
O and Steven, if your gonna diss cheerleading at least learn how to spell sandwich okay? Thanks smarty

definite, cheerleading is a activity. i'm sick of all and sundry making those snarky comments approximately "all superstar cheer is a activity yet sideline isn't..." EXCUSE ME, yet do you already know how a lot greater college cheer is than cheering at soccer and basketball video games? We prepare day and night, perfecting exercises that no-one could desire to ever memorize at the same time as hyperventilating from nonstop circulation. Did I point out we do flips and stunts that ninety 9% of folk could desire to by no potential learn? Oh ya we additionally circulate to camp the place we cheer for 13 HOURS an afternoon.... and we compete against different squads. And as for activities video games, i'm sorry, yet could desire to you yell chants out of your abdomen, hit tight motions making your hands sore, do sky extreme jumps and tumbling.. each 10 SECONDS??? For over an hour on the instant!!! All with a grin on your face in an uncomfortable uniform!!! evaluate that to different activities the place they get the remainder of SITTING ON A BENCH. If I hear one greater voice tell me cheerleading isn't a activity, so help me, yet you haven't any longer any concept.

Oh god. Of COURSE!
Competitive cheerleading is just like floor in gymnastics, but with more people and stunts.
You lift each other up and do advanced tumbling passes. You need lots of strength for that. You need endurance too. And for competitions you only have like 90 or something seconds (Dunno, I'm no cheerleader so I'm guessing) to show dance, tumbling, and lifts and all to the judges.
It takes lots of strength and endurance (I said that before but whatever)
this is from another person who asked this
but still my answer :P I didn't feel like typing it again so copy & paste :D

Yes! I do gymnastics but practice alot with Cheerleaders, and they work just as hard as we do! The stuff they do is risky and takes lots of skill, effort, strength and control.
