FHTM why would somebody do this?

I was asked by a friend to get involved in the Fortune High Tech Marketing system but I do not see a point to this ordeal. It just screams pyramid scheme and I was promised good money for little work, how has this company worked out for all of you who have joined? My friend also said I would get a sizable sign up bonus of 500-1000 dollars U.S. but I do not believe money can come this easily. Can somebody explain to me why I should or shouldn't get involved? Thank you in advance.

People who joined this are stupid and lazy and don't want to do anything to make money. My sister's man is in it and he is by far the laziest person i've ever known, literally. He is a couch potato and is almost 50 years old and doesn't have a job since 2 years ago. What is worse is that he lives in our house and doesn't contribute in any way financially or doing chores around the house. He is always trying to have me join that stupid scheme. He believes he can make a lot of money. Don't do it! To this day he is not richer.
