It IS possible to be perfect, why else would Jesus say "Be ye perfect" in Matthew 5:48?
Additionally, anyone who claims that this doctrine is blasphemy is denying that Jesus our Lord and Saviour came in the flesh as a human being. (See 1 John 4:2) Those who do not believe a Christian can live a sanctified and holy life apart from sin advocate a form of gnosticsm which teaches that Jesus was an aparition.
The answer then, is that "clergy" falls into immorality due to improper teaching and a lack of knowledge concerning the fallen nature (the sin nature).
"My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge." Hosea 4:6
When faith is placed in anything other than the finished work of the cross of Jesus Christ, failure is the result. I say again, faith in anything other than faith in Jesus and his atoning blood amounts to absolutely nothing and equals self-righteousness which leads to destruction.
See Romans 6, Christians should be able to live a life free from all sin because of what Jesus did on the cross. Do Christians sin? Yes, even the righteous are capable of sin and can fall; but they don't HAVE TO commit immorality as a slave does. When our faith is properly placed in the finished work of the cross it gives the Holy Spirit latitude to move in our lives and GOD will give the power necessary to resist all sin as did Jesus during the passion of our Lord here on earth.

There is nothing new under the sun, darling! People, including clergy, have fallen into, and positively revelled, in immorality, through the ages. But they still aspire to all sorts of things. And there is no such thing as 'Christian perfection' or any kind of perfection for that matter. To use the phrase 'Christian perfection' is a vast arrogance!

It DOES aspire to Christian perfection and renunciation as we all do. Are you telling us that YOU'VE reached Christian perfection and renunciation? Are you telling us that the clergy had once reached Christian perfection? Neither is true or was ever true. Humans can't be perfect. They sin. If you think any differently, you are going to be disappointed.

Unfortunately for them, the clergy has set itself up as being above the average person... better. They're not. That's what makes their failings more obvious.

Because extreme sexual repression never ends well.
Not just in the Catholic priesthood, but in the Middle East, in prison populations and everywhere else.
