I've been asked to sing a demo recording?

... for an aspiring song-writer. How much should I charge for this service.

This is a person whom I don't know personally; he's a member of the congregation where I am a song-leader. He has written a Christmas song and wants to produce a demo of it. He has already hired a studio and an arranger, so he appears fairly serious about this.

How much do singers generally get paid to record a demo track?

for an unknown person it probably shouldn't be too much, if anything. a lot of artists will team up and work for each other without charging each other because it furthers both careers.

it all is up to you. you don't have the right to charge a lot of money, but then again, its your voice, and you should get something out of it. i'd set a simple per hour rate, and then go from there. that way you don't get a crappy flat rate and then end up in the studio for 5 hours because they don't know what they're doing.
