Returning to work from maternity leave, is employer being unfair?

Hello,

Before having my daughter I was employed by a restaurant owner to be the manageress. Now after writing to them, giving them the required month warning, they have responded by saying that they do not have hours available there but are instead saying I can work the "odd shift" in another restaurant several miles away that they know is not possible for me to do because I cannot drive. Not only this, but I suspect that they want to dock my wage because they have taken the manageress title away from me.

I am so frustrated, after the long hours and the years that I have worked for them. I feel completely unappreciated and after working an average 35hrs for them a week prior to leaving for maternity leave, I cannot even scrape the 16hrs I desperately need to survive.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Update:

I am in the United Kingdom

    where are you?

in the US you may have been covered by FMLA (not all positions, employees or employers are covered)

edit the question to include where you are IF you want a relevant, accurate answer...........

when you go on leave and are allowed to come back the rule is that they have to give you hours, BUT don't have to give you the same hours and shift that you had when you left.
