How did people cut their nails before nail clippers?

I can't imagine any king or queen biting their toe nails off. What did they use?

If they had them filed by servants or slaves, they used pumice stone or sandstone at first (oldest file substance) and then nail files made of bronze I believe there's a picture of a woman getting her nails seen to in the Egyptian tombs.

Finger nail files have been around for more than 4000 years. The nail clipper is a recent invention.
