Anyone had a problem with a Belkin Surge Protector and their so called warranty?
My computer was hit by lightning. I saw it, just come out of the blue, hit on our hillside. It blew my Modem and computer. The phone company came out, first thing he checked was the surge protector, he said it was bad. He then checked my modem and computer, all bad. BELKIN told me to send the surge protector back and they would check it. Well, they are saying there was nothing wrong with it, and they were not going to honor their warranty. They told me to get a statement from the telephone man was here, well I tried but the phone co. cannot provide that information. In the meantime, I spent $200. for a new hard drive, but the computer kept shutting down after 10 min, so had to go buy a new one. Isn't the job of a surge protector to blow, instead of letting the surge or lightning in this case through? I still have the box, it says protects against lightning, right on the box. Anyone out there had the same experience with this company, and have any suggestions. I have told them that I am going to report them to our Att. General of our state, and the BBB. Doesn't seem to affect their decision. I bought it when buying a new computer, at the advice of a computer technician. Saying it would blow and protect the computer.
To Clifton, Belkin demanded that I send the surge protector back to them. It cost m3 $10. to send it back by UPS. I did ask for it back, just got a phone call from them saying they couldn't send it back to me, they could send it to a third party, that I name. They said it shows no damage. Well, isn't that the purpuse, to damage the surge protector, instead of the computer? So it failed, right??

I TAKE THE PROMISES ANY COMPANY GIVES YOU WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THEY REALLY SHOULDN'T MAKE CLAIMS LIKE THAT. THE ONLY REAL PROTECTION IS TO SWITCH A SURGE PROTECTOR OFF DURING A LIGHTNING STORM.
I'D FOLLOW THROUGH WITH REPORTING THE ISSUE TO THE BBB AND ATT. GENERAL.
GOOD LUCK!

First off,do you now have the surge protector in your hands?? If not, tell them you want it back right away! Second, I would go through the steps in their warranty and see if you have followed them all. Typically they will want to see the surge protector purchased at the same time as your computer (just as you did. Good for you!) and make a copy of that receipt. You might even have to go to the store and ask for their help. You should explain that the salesperson recommended the purchase (which was a great idea.) But now Belkin is not honoring the warranty. Can they help in any way.
I work in a store that sells these products and as of right now I'll avoid the Belkin surge protectors because of this. If you want to PM me any more details on your case, please do. I wouldn't mind sending them off an email on my side to mention that they just shot themselves in the foot for sales from my end. I always listen to the customers because the best advice I can give on products is when I or someone else I know has actually used them!
Also keep the surge protector, the box,the original receipt, the new receipts for the new computer. Keep these together because if you can make them pay,you want to be ready. If you could type out a letter from the store to Belkin and then ask their manager to sign it after you've proven all the facts to him by showing him the receipts from purchases from his/her store then you might be able to force their hand.
After all this is said though,it might simply be about pushing harder than others to get what's due. Many companies have you jump through hoops hoping you get too tired and stop jumping. What you want to do is keep going until THEY get tired of holding the hoops!
Good luck, and PM me the info if you want.

Wow! They wont send it TO you,but they will send it TO a third party??? What is their logic behind that??? I would demand that they send it directly back to me. If they refuse I'd look at a third party only to force them to send it back to me! Like the BBB in their neighborhood. I've posted the address to the BBB in Belkin's hometown of Playa Vista,Ca..
I can't see the reasoning behind them refusing to send it directly back to you. It seems like theft if they wont send it back.
.And sending it to a third party only?? Why? What logic can they have in telling you that?
The 2nd Link is the page that actually has the record of complaints against the company. It looks as though they will work with you (If I'm reading the chart correctly) so I would definitely follow through with the BBB and start your complaint immediately.

The only company I've used that had a legitimate warranty is Panamax. Most of their models offer a 10million dollar/lifetime warranty, and they pay!
