Can someone help me find a credible source that states Horus was born of a virgin?

Anything. Anything at all. But remember, I'm looking for a credible source.

There is no credible evidence, nor is there any credible evidence linking the supposed thievery of Christianity from any ancient pagan source.

The interesting thing is how the ancient religions have changed throughout the course of history and yet Christianity hasn't. Pick up a Greek mythology book from the 1800's and then pick one up from the 1900's and then pick up Edith Hamilton's writings of the 1900's and while some names stay the same, but their stories change.

The same goes with Egyptian stories. One Egyptian book used Horus death as the story of the seasons and that Isis mourned for 3 months (thus the season of Winter). Others had Horus being dead for years. Not one book written prior to the 1980's even had Isis being a virgin.

Mithraism is the same way. Was he born a virgin? Two differing stories about his birth. One story had him born from a bull and another had him born out of a rock.

The whole point is this: Every other pagan religion has changed their story, even in the last 100 years. For the last 2000 years Jesus was born from a virgin, died on a cross, resurrected 3 days later. There is no changing from that no matter how hard people have tried, it can not and has not been changed. Which one would be more correct, the one that is always changing to fit someones belief or the one that has never changed. I would stick with the one that has never changed.

There is no source. That usually comes from a misinterpretation of the story of his birth. Here is the low down:

Osiris and Isis tried to have a baby. They couldn't. Osiris hooked up with Nephthys and she got pregnant with Anubis. This pissed off her husband Set. Set killed Osiris by chopping him into peices and scattering them about. Isis goes looking for his peices and along the way tricks Ra into giving her some of his power. She finds everything BUT his penis. So she creates one out of mud and uses Ra's magic to make it functional. She has some play time with it and then is impregnated with Horus.

Of course this was the major story of Heliopolis (maybe Memphis, but I am pretty sure it was Heliopolis) and stories varied between the 4 major cities of Egypt (Heliopolis, Hermopolis, Memphis, Thebes).

Alot of the sites that are comparing Jesus to various traditions go with Horus are also more conspiracy theory type sites. No doubt that several religious stories and Jesus have similarities, I just don't see it in Egyptian religious history.

    Source(s): honors the Egyptian gods.

    Wait, you said credible.

How about Gerald Massey? Wait... he's not credible either.

Kersey Graves? Dang it! Again! Not credible!

Ooh, I know, watch Zeitgeist! But wait.... they didn't use any actual Egyptologist for the part on Horus.

    *scratches head*

You got me, I can't think of a single Egyptologist who would actually claim such a thing.

The claim is not that Horus was "born of a virgin", but that he was the result of a "virgin birth".

Isis impregnated herself with a golden phallus after losing Osiris' penis when she put his dismembered body back together.
