If you are a legal resident you can Join. You don't have to be a citizen, they can help you out to be a citizen.

once you take the oath to defend the constitution and the united states and complete your years of service you are a us citizen

I know non-citizens can join the army....not sure about other branches of the military.

they just have to be lawfully present within the u.s. Which means no illegal aliens but they take legal aliens
