Why do atheists say they don't have beliefs?

That is contradictory to what is exhibited on this site...one thing all atheists BELIEVE is that there is no God...despite your seemingly irrational attempts to deny what is so much in evidence...you have BELIEFS.

Update:

Wrong, first answer....]I have been around this site 4 years and I have seen nearly all atheists say that...

Even those who answered you recent question.

What? We believe in lots of things! The beliefs vary from person to person, of course, but we're humans, too, who live, love, laugh, cry - all of it. We just happen to lack a belief in any god/s :P

Also, I don't "believe that there is no god" - I just happen to lack a belief in same. There's a fine, but important, distinction there.

I'm not Atheist, I do not have any beliefs really

Atheists do have beliefs, Just not in GODS

But heres my best explanation i guess...

Theres no physical proof of any 'god'

thousands of years ago everyone believed in myths and stories, thats how culture and religion got started.

Most religions are just stories that they told kids to keep them straight in society, like folklore and stuff like that.

And back then people where A LOT more gullible then they where now. Stories traveled and tricks where easily believed. Now a days some one can write a book and its just a book.

Back then you write a book then it had to be true and religious people cant grasp that back then those books ( The Bible and other religious writings) where just writings and books, nothing more.

I'm kind of having trouble describing what I mean, but either way, there is no physical proof because books and things like that where more believed and sacred and as time went by it got passed down as being real.. when it was actually just stories and writings that gullible people couldn't explain

Sorry but you are either very ignorant or lying!!

Atheists do not have a belief - they KNOW there are no such things as gods!!

They also know that posts like yours do tremendous damage to the credibility of christianity and that whilst christianity has lost over ten percent in less than a decade the intolerance, hatred, bigotry and persecution in posts like yours are helping to accelerate the destruction of what was once a rreligionof love!!

I'm impressed with your evidence where you "have seen nearly all atheists say that."

Most atheists conclude that no gods exist -- based on the lack of reliable evidence for Jesus, Yahweh, Allah, Zeus, Thor, or any of the thousands of other gods that people have worshipped. There's also extensive evidence that they are all just myths. Science has shown that there's no need for gods to explain the traditional reasons for a god -- origin of the universe, origin of life, origin of species, origin of humans, origin of morality. Science also shows us the psychological reasons that people believe in god(s).

If a god like Yahweh or Allah existed there would be explicit evidence. No such evidence exists, therefore these gods do not exist.

It is not a belief it is certain knowledge of no God or gods. Why do fundies have to tell me what I think and know all the time. You are a ant to the greatness of knowledge. Your question shows a dim awareness of a greater reality. But it is not a man made fantasy of a Hebrew God.

    I've never said that.

".despite your seemingly irrational attempts to deny what is so much in evidence"

If it were so evident, we'd be followers of your god.

Yes atheists DO have beliefs, just none that involve the abrahamic god, or any other god/deity.

If you are going to make claims like this at least show some examples of where you feel they have been contridictory.

  • We don't say that, believers say that about us, big difference in semantics there.

I have plenty of beliefs, just not belief in any deity or Deities.

Not believing someone's claim of a god is not a belief, no matter how badly you want it to be.

That's the same as saying you believe there is no Santa, no, you don't, you do not believe there is a Santa because you know there is not. That's how atheism works, except substitute any god for Santa.

Well, I won't speak for all atheists, I do have beliefs, just not in a god.

My belief lays with Philosophy and Poetry <3

What Atheist has ever said they don't have beliefs?

Atheism is a disbelief in God, not a lack of beliefs entirely. It's just that they believe in things based on evidence, not faith.
