Can posters asking questions not related to jazz please select the correct format.?

How about if we "gently" direct these folks to the appropriate genre, place or wherever. Ignorance of what jazz is, or what questions to ask in the jazz section (including what to wear to a jazz recital, which I think is a very fair question if the person has never had a jazz recital before), is an opportunity for us to help them understand what jazz is. We can change their perception and give them some jazz music to listen to - get them into our genre.

yahoo does filter them- they filter them to the jazz section. some people are too lazy or just dont notice and dont switch away from the suggested catagory. there are patterns though, like any time anyone says the word "instrumental" it goes to the jazz section. so when someone wants a karaoke version of the latest radio pop hit, this is the section it assigns it to.

you should see all the questions the blues section gets about the various house of blues locations and the radio pop bands that play at them.

I am well trained in Jazz and music theory. Sometimes I'll ask for information about music in other genres because I know a lot of us work in country or rock bands to help pay the bills.

Granted, there are a lot of miscatagorized questions here, but if someone turns to you for your knowledge, take it as a compliment.

Maybe because a lot of the questions are asked by people who were not born during the Jazz era so don't know the true definition of the word JAZZ. ! ?
