I'm sure there's several ways to do this. One way would be to use a table, and use CSS to make it look appropriate, and Javascript to do useful stuff. See, for example, http://www.allfunandgames.ca/crossword/conventiona... .

You can't do that in HTML. You'll have to use something like JavaScript or ActionScript (Flash). HTH
