The Tridentine Mass is the Latin Mass that was prescribed by the Council of Trent in reponse to the Protestant Reformation. It was in use until Vatican II introduced the vernacular in the Mass; however, Vatican II never forbade its use as some would have us believe.

The Tridentine Mass is the old fashioned Mass in Latin. It's quite different than the Ordinary Mass that is typically said in whatever language the country the particular church is in.

Pope Benedict XVI has declared that priests can decide to hold a Tridentine Mass in their church, and has urged any priest that knows how to preform the Tridentine Mass to teach it to fellow priests. He is trying to make the Tridentine more available to Catholics worldwide. It's a lovely Mass and I love attending it at the Mission San Beunaventura.
