Whats the best time of day to take pictures to avoid shadows on the face?
I've been trying to get some of my little girl in the garden but seem to be getting shadows on her face. Is there a time of day that is a bit easier to avoid this happening?

the best times of day for photographs is the early morning or evening when the sun isn't at its brightest.
Here is something else to try, the sunny 16 rule... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunny_16_rule

Sunrise until about 10am, and then 3-4pm until sunset. It kind of depends where you live (since that affects the suns position relative to you at different times. What you need to do is watch that the sun isn't behind her (to the side and abit behind you is best. And make sure your not trying it at the brightest point of the day (midday) when you have harsh light coming from straight above (that makes heavy shadowing around the eyes and under the nose)

Using a reflector is probably the easiest and cheapest method. Depending on where the sun is in the sky, you place the reflector where it will reflect light back onto the subject, which lightens shadows.
Foamcore board, or any white reflective surface will work. Aluminum foil is more reflective, so you can cover a surface with it to use. Also, those windshield reflectors people put on their car dashboards to keep the heat out work good too.

Whichever time of the day when the sun is behind you. It is impossible to answer this question without knowing the orientation of your garden. Have her face east and take the picture in the morning or have her face west and take the picture in the evening.

on a cloudy day is best.
if not i suggest getting a fill flash.
i also suggest tring differnet times of the day she is your little girl so take 1 -10 photos every hour on the next day you have all day to do that. and see for yourself what time of day is best. sort of fun to do to!

better to do it when the sun isn't shining... light cloud cover makes the light look flatter... or use reflectors...
