Why the double standards against those who tend to become illegal immigrants?

Why the double standard against those who tend to become illegal immigrants?

People continue to say "they should have came LEGALLY" but our legal system gives them very few opportunities to come through legal immigration channels. Current immigration laws keep these people in a inferior status by being a a preference based system that puts unmarried persons directly related to US citizens at the very top and low skilled workers and refugees at the bottom.

we then use this fact as "proof" as to why they are and should be inferior and kept out of the country!

http://questingforatlantis.com/2010/04/02/understa...

People also want to state that illegal immigrants should have stayed in their own countries to make them better and call them cowards. this also is a double standard when we consider our countries foreign policy towards Latin American countries. the facts is these people HAVE been trying to change their own countries for decades and make them better, but in many cases the US has stepped in to snuff out uprisings by either training people at the SOA (School of Americas now renamed as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) or by giving direct military funding and weapons.

examples

U.S. Role in Genocide in Guatemala

http://www.democracynow.org/1999/3/1/u_s_role_in_g...

US role in Salvador's brutal war - the US assassinates Salvadorian revolutionary Archbishop Romero after he asks them NOT to intervene with military aid. then proceeds to intervene.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/1891145.stm

U.S. Military Involvement in Mexico

http://www.guidetoaction.org/magazine/april96/mexi...

US helps plan Coup of democratically elected Honduran President, and replaces him with their own SOA graduate. (2009)

http://themoderatevoice.com/37405/what-may-matter-...

And lets not forget who is responsible for all the beheading in Mexico. the Los Zetas, who are hired armies for drug cartels, were graduates of the SOA.

http://www.truth-out.org/why-are-beheadings-popula...

and i can not go without mentioning economically what NAFTA has done.

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=how_na...

so basically the US governments involvement in Latin American Countries has pushed people from their homes by helping create political and economical mayhem, pulling them with the promise of work and a better life, yet not giving them any viable means to do so legally.

So why do people keep saying these double standards? are people just not aware of what is really going on??

Update:

so i guess you guys missed the part where i said "those who tend to become illegal immigrants"

let me specify for you. those who are low skilled workers, who do not have family in the US, who do not have a job and are looking for work, who live in a country that does not qualify for diversity green card lottery like mexico.

does that help you understand?

I Totally agree with you..... .

    The War On Democracy.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1zZNbqi53o

John Pilger's 2007 documentary explores the historic and current relationship of Washington with countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Pilger claims that the film "...tells a universal story... analyzing and revealing, through vivid testimony, the story of great power behind its venerable myths. It allows us to understand the true nature of the so-called "war on terror"., the films message is that the greed and power of empire is not invincible and that people power is always the "seed beneath the snow".

Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who purportedly took part in secret campaigns against democratic countries and who he claims are profiting from the war in Iraq. He investigates the School of the Americas in the U.S. state of Georgia, where General Pinochetâ torture squads were reportedly trained along with tyrants and death-squad leaders in Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil and Argentina.

    You pose some interesting points.

I think what really upsets American is the double standard and hypocrisy of, say, Mexico, when it comes to how they treat their own illegals. Many Americans are frustrated at the poor state of the economy and historically it's time like these that we tend to finger point and blame others. Whether it is justified or not, I don't know.

It's the flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the United States of America that bothers me the most. You cannot declare you are illegal and not expect to get throw in jail for breaking the law. What would happen if everyone broke the law and expected that they too would not suffer the consequences? It would be absolute mayhem.

And what of the people who do "wait in line" and take their turn, go through the process, and follow all the proper steps in order to become legal? If you were standing in a long line, period, and someone jumped in front of you, and not just someone, but several someones, would you just stand there and take it? Would you not voice objection?

I think that is the heart of the matter. As for who gets to come in, as someone pointed out, the US has the right to pick and choose. Any country does. If one doesn't like it, then perhaps one should form a coalition and take steps to fix the process they deem faulty.

If this is true then how come there are LEGAL immigrants? It's not a double standard. There is a right way and a wrong way to do it. If you come here, let your status expire and do nothing about it, you are breaking the law. If you sneak here and do not alert anyone you plan to live here, you are breaking the law. If you did this in other countries you'd be shot, deported or arrested. Illegal is illegal no matter what spin you want to put on it. No I am not a hypocrite nor am I against immigration. I am a second generation American whose grandparents CHOSE to become legal immigrants. Sure it would have been easy for them to hide and lie rather than learn about the US history and pass the citizen test but it was worth it to them. Why isn't it worth it to you?

We are a sovereign nation. That means that we the people of the United States make all laws pertaining to this country. No one outside of America has any valid say in what we do. We have the right to decide who comes in, how many come in, and what steps they are required to come in. This is our right as a sovereign nation. It is the right that every sovereign nation in the world has.

People in other countries do NOT have the right to decide that our system is too slow or inconvenient for them, and therefore can ignore the laws. If they can't meet the requirements of our immigration laws, then they don't get to come here.

If the US government decided not to let one single immigrant in for all time, that would be our right.

The USA already has the most immigrant friendly laws in the world. For some reason, pro-illegal activists think that we must have an open border. If there is one constant repeater in the history of nations, it is that a nation that does not control its border inevitable fails. Is that what you and the rest of the Open Borders crowd wants?

So, just because YOU think that the U.S. gives illegals "very few opportunities to come through legal immigration channels," that gives people the the divine right to sneak into the country as a means to serve their own ends?

Give me a break. There are opportunities to come into this country through legal immigration channels; my husband and I used one of those opportunities to bring him here and make him legal. And we are by no means rich or connected. My mother's family, all Mexicans, are here legally. THEY are by no means rich or connected.

Now, while I am disheartened by troubles occurring around the world in disenfranchised nations, these troubles are NOT exclusively the United States' to solve. The leaders of these countries - including Mexico - have to end their corruption practices and make changes within their own bureaucracy, rather than pass the buck to the U.S.

People don't tend to become illegal. They either are, or they aren't. And they SHOULD stay in their own countries until they can come here the right way (through asylum, visa or other status), or my husband and I want our money back.

What this nation really needs is millions more of unskilled ,under educated people looking for work. .In case you haven't noticed there are millions of American citizens out of work,so you are suggesting that the US make it easier for millions of illegal aliens to compete with American citizens for jobs here in the US? Brilliant thinking.

There are already many legal options that one can use to earn citizenship in the US but you still think its too difficult.

As far as US involvement in Mexico ,that's funny ,really you dont think Mexico's idiot law suit against an American state is asinine ,well I and millions of people here in this nation think its just Mexico's way of trying to preserve its dumping ground for its poorest citizens. There are legal immigrants that came the legal way that are also looking for jobs .Who do you think deserves to have those jobs?

Why do you think illegal aliens from Mexico should get preferential treatment?

Your "reasoning " is tragically flawed

Very few opportunities to come through legal channels????????? We have people becoming legal citizens every day!!! Yes the process takes longer now than it used to, but that is just because there are more and more people trying to come here legally!!

Double standards is what pro-illegals do best!! So it is ok for illegals to break the law by being here illegally but then they say that they are "innocent"???

What total nonsense. What about mexico's double standard as far as illegals go. what about the double standard that illegals break the laws but in turn want them to work for them. If a crime is committed against hem, they want protection, but want to deny us protection from them. If you are proof of what the young people of today are, God help us all. And I am so proud my children do not follow your logic and actually see facts.

almost 1/2 million mexican immigrants go throuogh the system each year. are we just suppossed let in as many as want to come each year? we have to have limits. we allow for an overall amount each year and they will just have to stand on line line people from china and laos and korea and so on. we have to have a limit.
