Why is it so hard to get a tattoo apprenticeship in Austin, TX?
I've been trying for years now. My art is great. I have a good color sense, fantastic composition, and I'm very good at traditional Japanese and Chinese artwork. And yet, it seems like the community is so saturated that they just don't want more competition.
What do you think I'm doing wrong? I go into the shops, ask if they want to see my artwork or if anyone would be interested in an apprentice, and then show them my work. I've had great feedback but every time it's the same thing. They're not looking for anyone.
I'm confused and frustrated, but I'm not going to give up. I just want someone else to look at it and see what I'm doing wrong.

Well, it is saturated. It is highly competitive and the country is just recovering from a recession. You should go to a school for tattoo artists or an art school and think of another career in art.
Also keep talking to tattoo artists and ask how they started, where they learn their crafts. Keep networking with them. Make postcards of artwork with your contact info and hand them out to tattoo artists. Go to conventions for tattoo artists. It will be tough but keep trucking.
