I have a huge vocal performance coming up, how long do I vocal rest?
I have a major competition coming up for Sopranos, and I was wondering how long I need to vocal rest. I've been training for the passed couple days, and the competition isn't until the 22nd. Would it be around a few days? Also, I've never had a problem with dairy but since this is pretty significant, should I give it up during the rest?
Thanks for your input.
1 AnswerSinging9 years agoMy dad is a disabled veteran in California?
I'm going to college, which is very expensive. My father is a 70% disabled veteran, I can't remember where he registered when he enrolled, but he served for over 20 years, lived in Colorado for ten years, and is currently residing in California as a contractor for the military base there. Since I'm 24 years old, and live in Texas, do I qualify for any help with financial aid due to his being a veteran? The laws in Texas for veterans are confusing and I can't make heads or tails of them.
2 AnswersFinancial Aid9 years agoCan't tell what kind of guitar I have?
I 'inherited' a guitar from next to a dumpster in my apartments. It's perfectly fine, no holes in the body, and needed new bridge pins and had no strings. I haven't gotten it to play yet, but the sound hole when I rap on it makes a pretty decent noise. The thing is, I have no idea what kind of guitar it is. It doesn't have a model number on the head or in the sound hole. All it says is 'Premier' on the top of it.
I would appreciate some help with this if only because, if it's worth ANYTHING I would invest the money into sprucing it back up to shape and to brag about it. Even if it's not, still a pretty sweet little thing that I hope will stick with me for a good while.
3 AnswersSinging1 decade agoGoing vegetarian because if IBS?
Okay, so, recently for the past week after every meal I've been experiencing rather uncomfortable loose stools that stem from my IBS. I had a test done years ago that shows I don't process meat the same way a normal person does, the fibers don't get broken down properly. So, I had to go vegetarian for a time because of it and gradually reintroduced meat back into my diet.
However, it's been nearly ten years since then and my body is starting to reject food again. All food. So I'm thinking of going back onto a vegetarian diet for a few months to a year to get everything straightened out. My question is, since I can't remember how I introduced the diet ten years ago, do I do it gradually or cold turkey? My stomach is a bit frail right now and don't want to shock it too much.
Also, does this happen to anyone else?
6 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoWhen you double the ingredients in a butternut squash soup do you double the cooking time?
I'm making a curried butternut squash recipe tonight. I've made it several times before but it always is gone way too soon, as in it lasts about a day before we're scraping the bottom of the pot. So, I doubled the batch and now am cooking it in my stock pot as opposed to my dutch oven. Anyway, I'm wondering that since the squash is dense and the liquid is also doubled should I double the cook time?
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoIs it possible to be allergic to coconut milk...?
But not actual shaved coconut? Every time I eat anything with Coconut milk in it I get itchy and my hands swell up a bit. But I can eat shaved coconut all day long with no reaction whatsoever.
I'm thinking that, since I live in Austin, that I might just be experiencing the evil that is Ragweed season. But I dunno.
2 AnswersAllergies1 decade agoDirty looks because I'm dating someone outside my race?
Okay, so I'm dating a really nice guy and we've been getting pretty serious lately. We formally started being boyfriend and girlfriend a few weeks ago and for some reason I've been getting dirty looks. Let me clarify by saying he's a very nice black guy, does well in college, and is the best boyfriend I've frankly ever had. And yet, whenever we're out and about I'll sense people giving me dirty looks or catch them glaring at me.
Most of the looks come from, sadly, black women. Why is that? He's made the decision to date outside of his race and so have I. We like each other very much, verging on love at this point, and shouldn't that be the only thing that matters? I was raised to look beyond skin color and see the person, not their race or social class. I know I shouldn't let it bother me but sometimes it gets a bit much.
And I'm just wondering, from all out there, what do you think? Why is it that as soon as we started holding hands and hugging each other in public did I start getting such bile?
5 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoWhy is it so hard to get a tattoo apprenticeship in Austin, TX?
I've been trying for years now. My art is great. I have a good color sense, fantastic composition, and I'm very good at traditional Japanese and Chinese artwork. And yet, it seems like the community is so saturated that they just don't want more competition.
What do you think I'm doing wrong? I go into the shops, ask if they want to see my artwork or if anyone would be interested in an apprentice, and then show them my work. I've had great feedback but every time it's the same thing. They're not looking for anyone.
I'm confused and frustrated, but I'm not going to give up. I just want someone else to look at it and see what I'm doing wrong.
