What do you think the 14th sex was?

Surely if all life spontaneously appeared from inorganic matter and developed into the male/female of the species we see today, surely there were some intermediate sexes early on that never made it, perhaps even millions of intermediate sexes.

You make it sound like males and females are different species. There was asexual reproduction, and then sexual reproduction developed. So the "intermediate form" would be a species that reproduced both ways, as in bacteria that normally split asexually, but occasionally merge to create new combinations of DNA. Also, many plants have both male and female components, but do not self-pollinate.

Counting out the stages of development would be mostly arbitrary.

I think you are way too young. And even if you plan EVERYTHING something could still happen and then what? You are too young. It doesn't matter if you are a good person or not but having sex at 14 is too young in my opinion. And plus you are in year 8. Things could change between you two anytime. You don't want to lose your virginity to some guy who might not stick around afterwards. Even if he claims he's not a horndog, if you start having sex with each other it won't ever stop. That's how guys function basically. They have to keep having sex once they get it. If you don't listen to me then just be careful. And reconsider losing your Vcard to someone just yet.

Throughout plant and animal kingdoms, where separate sexes exist, it is a dichotomous stiation. Dichotomous, as in, two opposite chromosomes carried on the same chromosomal allel. Frmales XX, males XY. Only in abnormally developed individuals to variations from this simple 2 part system occur, such as XXY, or XYY, and they are also involving those same two genes, the X and the Y. So there are no intermeidates needed or indicated in this dischotomous 'either/or'.

    Shmale.

But seeing as microbes are asexual and replicate without sex, I would say new sexes besides male and female would exist in the future, and not the past.
