Wondering if I will get a retainer fee back if no longer using the attorney?

We paid $175 per hour for 10 hours up front, but we are no longer going to need the lawyers services (only used about 2 hours) will we get the other 8 hrs back?

You should but it's not going to be refunded to you unless you ask for it. Also, don't be surprised if you get a bill from the attorney outlining all the hours he or she put in which equals the total retainer fee. I have no idea what your situation was but I'm really hoping that the 2 hours you think the lawyer spent is correct and not just the time you spent in court or meeting with him or her. There's a lot of "behind the scenes" activity which is also billable...so just be prepared to get less back than you expect. If that is the case, I strongly urge you to request an itemized bill. And if you signed a retainer agreement double check that language too to see exactly what you agreed to pay.
