LimeWire should NOT have messed up his computer while being uninstalled and the search engines, etc. you are talking about, I'm not even sure that they're associated with LimeWire. LimeWire has its' own built-in searches.
LimeWire itself is legal and a program you can trust. The main thing people use LimeWire for, however, is to illegally obtain copyrighted material. You CAN use it legally if the only files you share or obtain are ones that either have no copyright on them or the person sharing them has copyright ownership.
The other issue with using LimeWire is that people may accidentally or deliberately share infected files. That's the reason LimeWire gets a (wrongly-deserved) reputation for giving computers viruses. In reality, if the user (even ones obtaining material illegally) were to properly check every single file that came in to see if it contains viruses, they should never end up with an infected computer.
Uninstalling it should be as simple as running the uninstaller or going to Add/Remove Programs and invoking the uninstall from there. No damage should be done to the computer.
Okay, that all said and out of the way, I'm not disputing that the computer now has a problem, just setting the record straight on LimeWire first as a background to helping you.
I'm making a guess that the computer may have malware on it (viruses and such-like). I'd suggest giving Malwarebytes a go or the entire cleaning guide that the Malwarebytes one is part of:
Malwarebytes: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=1546...
Entire: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=3540...
To repair any damage to the operating system, try running a System File Check, which will search for missing and damaged system files and replace them.
- Press and hold the Windows key and while holding it, press the R key and then release both.
- In the text box that pops up, type this, noting the space between c and / and the double 'n' in the second part:
sfc /scannow
- Click OK.
You may be asked for the Windows disk and this could take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour. However, if there were any problems the computer should run better after that.
If the computer still has problems, you can get help on the Major Geeks forums. If it's a malware problem, you go through the entire guide first (which often solves people's problems) and then post your logs for them to look at. All the information you need is in the guide. If it's Windows that's the problem and malware has been ruled out, then ask in the Software forum instead.

I agree with the second answer. LimeWire does not affiliate with any search engines or explorers for that matter.

I had this same problem. There are programs on the internet you can download to get rid of it. Theres also a few wikis arround that tell you how to get rid of it too.
