well Scripture tells us not to wait....and it also tells us what is required...Jesus showed as example by being Baptized By MUCH (Immersion)water Baptizmo: to submerge/dip NOT by sprinkling, infant baptism is NOT supported by the Word of God, an infant has no idea of what the committment is or what it means and is NOT accountable.Mary & Joseph took young Jesus to the Temple for "dedication" Luke 2:22 there are pre reqiuistite to Baptism Acts 2:38 / Acts 19:4 / Matthew 28:18-20 where Jesus instructed His desciples to teach all nations, and then baptize them., in Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be saved, he that believeth not, shall be damned". It is our public declaration that we have surrendered our life to Christ-a public confession Matthew 10:32 "Whoseoever therefore shall confess me before men, him I will confess before my Father which is in Heaven." Baptism IS a requirement. Peace/Love God Bless You

Hmmm. It is better not to wait to receive this wonderful gift from God, but you are still a Christian in the meantime. Why would you have to wait for three years? Is it because of your parents? If it is, I would persist in asking for their permission.
You may want to read up on baptism and what it is- a GREAT booklet of FAQ's is available here: http://www.bythefont.com/downloads.html
Too, you might get more through answers by checking out the Ask the Pastor section of this website: http://wittenbergtrail.org/group/askthepastor
(you do need to create an account, tho'- if you're not comfortable using your real name, just use initials or a fake last name). But the pastors (and other people who answer questions) are super nice and will give more detailed answers than the people here on Y!A. I bet they will be thrilled to hear that you are thinking of getting baptized and will bend over backwards to help you out.

Jesus commanded that we be baptized.
John 3:3,5 - Jesus says, "Truly, truly, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." When Jesus said "water and the Spirit," He was referring to baptism (which requires the use of water, and the work of the Spirit).
BAPTISM:
is done FOR the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38)
is done to SAVE us (1Peter 3:21, Acts 2:40, Mark 16:16)
Is done to WASH AWAY OUR SINS(original sin in babies) (Acts 22:16)
is done to be REBORN to new life (John 3:5, Romans 6:3-6)
is done to CLOTHE ourselves with Christ (Gal 3:26-27)
is done so that GOD will RESURRECT us from death (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:3-6)
is done as a REQUIRMENT to enter heaven (John 3:5, Mark 16:16)
is done to put us INTO CHRIST (Romans 6:3-6, Galatians 3:26-27, 1Corinthians 12:13)
Peter explained what happens at baptism when he said, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38). But he did not restrict this teaching to adults. He added, "For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him" (2:39). We also read: "Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name" (Acts 22:16). These commands are universal, not restricted to adults. Further, these commands make clear the necessary connection between baptism and salvation, a
connection explicitly stated in 1 Peter 3:21: "Baptism . . . now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

Have you asked yourself why you want to wait,
when the pattern shown in scripture is that new
converts get baptized straight away, in obedience
to Jesus' instructions?
Maybe you haven't "converted" but just sticking
a toe in the water like shopping around.
It's not a light decision to follow Jesus Christ,
and when He has come into your heart it is a
life changing experience. You can't fool Him.
"3 years!" Who is Lord here... you or Jesus?
A very wise Christian guy told me we are either
for the Lord or against Him... no grey area, and
no fence to sit on. (Joshua 24:15)

If you have truly turned from sin and trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you don't need to wait. Talk to your Pastor and arrange for a time to be baptized.
Just a note, baptism does not save anyone. Salvation is only in Jesus Christ. Baptism is following in His footsteps and a public profession of faith and symbolically sharing in His death and resurrection.

Why ? I was baptized about a year after I became born again, it took about that long to find a church that follows the bible in the area where I lived at that time.

You should get baptized once you truly believe in God. It's not about the when - it's about being a believer, and being reborn into the church. My parents didn't baptize me as a child, because they wanted me to make the decision for myself.

If you are sure you have accepted Jesus, why wait?
If you are not sure then wait.
God bless

You can get baptized any time as long as you have accepted Him and developed a relationship with HIM and as long as you believe..
so it's up to you
