i am at a hotel and using the internet there, so is there a way to get most of the internet power onto my comp?
I really have to get some work done and I think someone is downloading something which is causing the internet to go very slow.

Not really. it's a shared connection. I assume you are connecting via wireless? the only other option that "may" be quicker is if you have a LAN cable and there is a LAN port. Most generally LAN cables are faster than wireless

The internet speed is fixed. If many people are on the same network then you will experience slower speed.

you can always accidently turn off their computer haha..but unless you can connect to the router to change the settings im afraid your stuck until their download finishes
