Pigeon Forge, TN vacation... any suggestions?

My BF and I are going to Pigeon Forge, TN in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to find some creative fun things to do while we're there since he's never been there before. Only problem is, everything seems to be outrageously priced and/or is something we can do right here in MI.

So could someone suggest some fun things to do while we're there aside from the dinner shows and other common tourist attractions, that we can't find here in Michigan?

Update:

Thanks for the suggestions so far, it's really appreciated!

We really want to enjoy the scenery so we will be doing the auto trails and maybe a few hiking trails. Clingmans Dome is a must and possibly the Forbidden Caverns since we can't see anything like that in MI. I'm also in the process of booking a rafting trip. The only "attractions" we plan to see so far are the Ripley's Aquarium, Wonderworks (which I'm a bit sketchy about) and the Hollywood Wax Museum. We're debating on the Dixie Stampede also. But suggestions are still welcome as we want to see as much as possible while we're there.

me and my BF went in the middle of july.. we did ALOT of hiking (not guided) to water falls my favorite was the hike to rainbows falls its a 5.2 mile hike but takes close to 5 hrs with the stopping and looking at the falls ( we climbed over the little bridge that they built to look at it bc it was to far back we went right up to it and set on the rocks right next to it) they also have cades cove it is a drive thru nature trail VERY nice you see lot of wildlife and black bears and they have many old churches and cabins ( but on weds and sat i think its closed until 10am to drivers and is open for mountain/road bikers we did that its 11 miles and you can stop off and do a hike that is 5 miles it only takes 2 hrs tho and its to abrams falls. (it was a little tuff bc i have asthma and just started biking about 4 months before this trip) it was also very nice. We also went horse back riding in the mountains and white water rafting. Tubing is fun if you go in the right spots (but the places you go and rent tube and they bring you on a bus arent that fun bc they dont go thru very many rapids) and Gatlinburg is a very cute little town with a parkway that has tourist shops all up and down thats where we stayed i dont really prefer pigeon forge its not as nice as gatlinburg(only like 5-10 away from pigeon forge just keep driving on the parkway and it will lead into gatlinburg) also the Ripleys Aquarium was the nicest aquarium i ever been to. Other then that going up in the mountains and stopping off is just beautiful!

Source(s): btw all of these things are in the vicinity of gatlinburg/ pigeon forge .. Rainbow Falls is right in gatlinburg in the nation park tho and the aquarium in in gatlinburg on the parkway

Okay, it really depends on what you like to do but here are some things I think might work.

Tubing down the river (this is cheap)

Hike to Clingman's Dome which is the highest point in our park which is the most visited national park in the US

Hike Mt. Le Conte and eat lunch at the top

Go fishing. Gatlinburg stocks the river with trout on Thursdays

Go to an arcade. We have lots in Pigeon Forge and it doesn't cost much.

Bunjee jumping. This will cost a little but the thrill and the story may be worth it.

Dolly wood's Splash Country. This will cost but if you go after 3pm you can get in again the next day for free.

Stay at a budget cabin that has cable and a pool table. The competition of playing a game of pool will be fun and the cable tv can keep you occupied when you're not out.

Go watch karaoke. The prizes are great! (sometimes they give out $400 cash to the winner) and the musicians are actually pretty good too.
