A plutoid is an object that is in orbit around the Sun and has an orbit beyond that of Neptune (we used to call them Trans-Neptunian Objects = TNO)

Pluto also happens to be a plutino (an object that orbits the Sun twice, every time Neptune orbits three times -- it is in a 3:2 resonance with Neptune).

Pluto is also a dwarf planet: bigger than a minor planet (like the asteroids) but smaller than a "real" planet (Pluto is only 1/6 the mass of our Moon).

The word "planet" has been used since the days of Greek astronomy (roughly 2300 years). Over the history of our astronomy (since the 1600s), Pluto is the 11th object to lose its planet status.

Basically, a Plutoid is another name for a Dwarf Planet. The name isn't getting much widespread usage. From what I understand, the name is a concession being made to the now disgraced former Planet.

A Dwarf Planet is a rock in space, which orbits the Sun, that isn't quite large enough to be a planet, but still has enough gravity to produce a spherical shape.

    Pluto is a dwarf planet.

A 'plutoid' is any dwarf planet that is also a trans-Neptunian object (meaning its orbit is mostly outside the orbit of Neptune)

Ok sadly Pluto has been found to not be a plant but a large asteroid circling Neptune. That is also wrong anyway, Neptune and Pluto are sort of circling each other. But Pluto has been downgraded to a planetoid. If that makes sense. It's took big to be a asteriod but to small to be a planet...I hate the man who ever found that rotten egg of information >.>. But yes, that is what Pluto is beign called now T.T

a plutoid is a celestial body orbiting the sun at a semi-major axis(longest diameter) greater than that of neptune and have sufficient mass to overcome body forces to assume a near spherical shape.
