Should I change my major in college?
I'm about to start my sophomore year of college. I've been majoring in Theatre Design/Technology, which I love, but I was thinking about changing my major to Business Administration. Here's what I'm thinking:
Theatre
Pros:
-Fun & Exciting
-I'm familiar with the field
Cons:
-Low paying
-Difficult to find a career
Business Administration
-More practical
-Degree can be used for a variety of job positions (including theatre)
-Field is growing
-Pays much more
-Cheaper degree to obtain (for my college)
Cons:
-Adds an extra year to college to make up for lost time
-As much as I like Business, I'm not as passionate about it as theatre.
Opinions? Thanks in advance.

I was a computer engineering major and I was obsessed about it .. but decided to switch to Business and I think It's a smart choice (in my case and yours ) even though it'll will add a year (same for me too)
these days we can't really do what we love, we have to compromise and be realistic..
you can still do theatre (community theatre) or do classes later on (not as a degree pursuant) and still do what you love and you'd have a business degree that should guarantee u a paycheck at the end of the month
good luck and i wish you the best at whatever you decide to do

There's a couple of things you need to look at. Are you wanting a much higher paying job that you'll dislike (which may or may not lead to some health issues... i.e. stress), or a job that you'll enjoy and pays you enough for you to survive in life?
As such, in your research mentioned above, the Business degree could still lead you to a theatre type career. Which would look to me as a win/win situation.
What you may want to do as well, is see if your college/university offers a dual-degree program. I've noticed a lot of them are starting to head toward that direction where you can get a degree in two different fields (some specify which degrees are eligible for this).
Usually the first couple of years in a degree is your general education requirements (i.e. English, Math, etc) anyway (unless you've been taking specifically theatre type classes), this would mean that they would transfer over to the other major anyway, so you wouldn't really be losing a year.
Hope this helped!

It is extremely important to love what you do for your career. But, as you mentioned, you also want a career that will support you. If you love theater and are interested in business as well, why not double major? Of Major in theater and minor in business (or vice versa)? That will give you the best of both worlds.

various of cases you initiate taking instructions to your important and are available to a sort you will particularly do something else. college is approximately looking your self. don't be concerned approximately this too plenty once you're purely getting into, except there must be some consequences concerning changing your particular important. I had a pal that went to varsity as a technology important on an entire-trip scholarship that grow to be meant to be in keeping together with his grades and private achievements. whilst he discovered that it wasn't precisely what he wanted to do, he tried to alter his important. This grow to be 2 years in. They took back his scholarship. this would have been prevented if he had purely asked from the beginning up if there have been any particular obstacles (to boot the glaring of holding his grades). He would are starting to be a scholarship to any college he utilized for, yet on the grounds that he grow to be lifeless-set on shifting into this particular college, he rushed with out interpreting the effective print. in the present day, 4 years later, he has stumbled on that veterinary learn grow to be his calling...and he's doing very properly in a job that he loves. He did be able to get yet another scholarship at yet another college. My perfect suggestion is to easily decide for it. the 1st 12 months or so is once you're taking all the fundamental circumstances besides. Take a type or 2 that pertains on your particular important once you're procuring your circumstances and perhaps you will discover which you like the course you're heading in. perhaps certainly one of your circumstances will motivate you to look someplace else for the place you opt to spend your destiny. I took Spanish, German, French, Arabic, and eastern in persuit of a language important. As a filler, I took pre-regulation one hundred and one and found out that that's strictly the place i wanted to be. Now I paintings in a regulation company, or maybe inspite of the undeniable fact that i'm nonetheless in regulation college, i like it. The languages are useful and are nonetheless something for me to fall back on, yet it particularly is what makes me chuffed. Persue your objectives, regardless of they could be or grow to be. sturdy success to you!
