Waaaaaay back in prehistoric times, about 40 or 50 years ago, some guy found an orphaned wild calf. Feeling sorry for it, he took it home with him, hoping to eat it when it was grown. Two years later, the calf had grown into a healthy young heifer. Feeling the urge to mate, she broke loose and got herself bred by a studly young bull who lived in the nearby forest. Then she returned home. Months later, a new calf was born.
At this point, times were hard and food was scarce. The man saw the calf getting milk from its mother and thought, "Hey, there's something I could try."
Of course, the cow didn't like having him attached to her udders, so she kicked him in the head. That's what prompted the invention of the milk bucket.
Over time, the man's neighbors learned what he was doing and followed suit. The rest is history.

The first human, more than likely, milked a female that they had just killed. Feral goats and sheep and cows were easy targets for domestication. Horses and camels too.

The first person to milk a cow was a crazy man named Albert Klondike. He wanted to feel the cows nipples, but milk came out and he created Klondike Bars. He was just trying to turn the cow on.

I imagine long long ago, probably in the middle east, if they tried it with a male, they would either die by too much love or too much bull. They would quickly learn to avoid males. I think the wife was probably not too happy with her hubby when he first told his wife what he brought home for supper and then he brought some chicken eggs and escargo.

I imagine that they observed a calf drinking that way and tried to replicate it.
