Egyptians: What do you think about dual nationalities?
Hmmmmm a lot of people are really into this!! I have to say i disagree with all of you, because i think you shouldn't have more than one nationality,it's like having more than one wife and besides your loyalty would be to which country if God forbid a war broke out, which side are you going to take or would you leave everything behind and go fight for Egypt if something bad happens to it?
Dual nationalities if they have any benefits then i would say you wouldn't need to stay in a long que waiting for visa, other than that i don't see anything nice about being an american or Canadian or English or Australian since you already have a nationality then why look for another?
@I'm Concerned: Are you even serious? You are making me choose between my mother and a step mother, of course i'll choose my mother even if she was bel balla lazra2 and the step mother was the greatest of all times. Does that mean if your mother had a serious disease would you dump her for another mother or would you do your best to help her? Plus even if you were raised by your step mother whom would you love and cherish more, your mother (the real one) or your step mother who is by the way isn't that good anyhow.
@ranona: Thank you!! Finally someone understands a rational concept that you can't have 2 fathers or 2 mothers or 2 freaking countries!!! I wish many people would understand this very same concept because we are becoming a rarity these w Rabena yostor w met7salsh 7arb a7san ana keda ba2et 2al2an bsabab 7war el dual nationalities, patriotism is vanishing honestly.
@Dun Bug Me: Do you have the nationality of KSA? I don't know if you do or not but for instance my father had been living in UAE for 13 years and he's not Emirati if you get what i mean,he's a resident yes but he's a citizen of Egypt not of UAE.
@Dina and Kemo: Problem is with pride, it's as if people lose their pride in Egypt (their real country) and take pride in a country that definitely supports israel and may even have israeli citizens with it's nationality, for God's sake some of these people may have their grand parents fought against israel and it's allies in 1973 and God knows what other wars. I mean giving one country all the love and loyalty is the reasonable thing!! If they want to have other nationality like for "masl7a" then i can see a point there, but seriously you find Egyptians who have other citizenships putting flags of other countries on top of their houses and only forget the other citizenship when for instance Egypt wins the ACN in football, then they are Egyptians all of a sudden!! I believe dual nationalities will cause problems on the long run and when people forget what their true identity is then it's real chaos!!
Plus how can someone become English just for living there for sometime, i can't really grasp the concept of an Indian or Pakistani who's English O_o Or Senegalese,Algerians (whom we mock for that reason by the way) and other African nationalities who are French!!! Then finally a citizen of a colony, seriously!!
@Dina: No i had a full grasp of what you said. You said people are looking for an escape from the hell they see here in Egypt so they travel abroad to give their children a better life and future and all. But still it's not only parents who plant the love of the country in the children,it's also other institutes like school so when for example you keep watching stuff like "God bless america' or whatever you will get affected like us here in Egypt when we hear patriotic songs about Egypt and lines like "ta7ya Masr" they plant the love of Egypt in us, so you can't love 2 countries all the same at the same time, you prefer one to another and believe me all those who were raised in other countries don't want to leave them even if their parents kept telling them how great their mother country is.

is that a question to my question :D loool i said before that when i was a kid back at school i had friends with dual nat. & at that time i thought it was cool coz they can travel whenever they want..but now i totally agree with u i was just going to say the same when i read about your comment..what will happen if there's war who would u be loyal to? & let's say that u were born & raised in the other country naturally u'll love it too coz it's your home but what about your roots??? i think u have agreat point there the only reason that would make me want another nat. is to have easy access to that country or not face problems at the customs for example that's it..ok this is actually a story about a relative of mine wshbah awi elfilm 3sal eswed if u've sen it..she traveled to canada years ago maybe about 10 & they got their candian passports just 3 years ago or sth when she traveled back here for some business she used her candian pass. & booked the hotel with it & she was treated like a foreigner!! i asked her why not use ur egyotian pass. sje told me the candian one opens doors for her & they treat her differently & better & she has so much more privileges do imagine it.. i couldn't believe her it's really depressing to know that tourists & foreigners are getting better way of treatment & services than us ..maybe that's the reason that makes ppk want to have another passport..weird e7na balad 3'reba mthanen f baldna wbara baldna!!!

I think it is cool in the sense that you are going through different cultures and different ways of thinking. Regarding the belonging concept , I guess It depends , it differes from one another. I'v been living like 14 years in KSA but my belonging is to Egypt and never was to KSA ! so msh shart ele enta bt2olo dah
@ wolf: I didn't make my point clear . I'm Egyptian aktr . sha5syte kda , ro7y kda. Even If I have the nationality of ksa , even law they gave all the facilities I want , I'll appreciate that bas ana into Masr aktr. I never liked living there.
3'er kda , fe nas 3ysha tol 3mrha fe masr , masryeen., we nfshm yheggo bara al bld we mayrg3osh tany inshallah yro7o ISrael. Again , de msh mas2lt nationality ad mahya enta eh? mabd2k eh? 3ayz eh? e7sask eh? It is a very subjective thing from ma point of view

I think having a 'dual nationality' can have its advantages and disadvantages…..and like Dina said, if you’ve seen the film '3asal Eswed' then you will kind of know when to claim that you have dual nationality ,and when not to. For example, you wouldn't go into a 'Mozahra' against America…and then you claim that you are an American citizen…lol…because that would get you killed.
In general, I think it has more advantages (in my opinion)…because when I was applying for jobs online, they always asked you to state your 'Nationality', your 'National Insurance Number'…and whether you were an 'EU Citizen'. If you weren't able to provide any of the above, then they don’t allow you to proceed with the application…..and in very few cases, they ask for a work visa.
So just to summarize, it depends on where you want to stay….and what 'rights' you want to claim if you want/are living abroad.

What will you do if you've your biological mother and step mother who will you be loyal to? Dual nationalities have advantages cannot be ignored.

Edit;
@Wolf; You answered the question yourself, if there was a war between your country and other country you've nationality for you will fight for your mother the country you love "your mother country" no matter what it did to you, no matter if there's a lot of wrong things "diseases" in it. btw you can have 2 fathers and 2 mothers as I said above bio father and step father .. it's a fact, isn't it?

Egypt it self deals with Israel, and at a time encouraged Egyptian business men to work with Israel. Do you think a person who is getting humiliated by his country "and in some other countries" will sacrifice an opportunity to be a real human with rights? does that make sense?

Haven't you watched "3asal eswed" ?:D...I think it answers you on: why people seek other nationalities!.....it depends on the person & how he/she's raised, some families with dual nationalities raise their kids on the principle that Egypt is still your first country whether you live in it or anywhere else....other families forget to raise their kids on that principle & how to love their mother country to the extent that they'd die for it...so I think you shouldn't generalize when saying people with dual nationalities won't be able to choose a side...I've known some people who haven't been in Egypt nearly their entire lives (with parents with dual nationalities) & they still consider it home & others who failed to teach their kids about the value of loving their mother country & family & these are to become parents one day & with dual nationalities but one of these nationalities will have been neglected for quite some time now to be even considered as a second nationality.
@ Asker: enta shaklak ma2retsh elly ana katbah 5ales :P....I said what I think about why people want to get another nationality & it's because of "3asal eswed"!...what I think about people's loyalty is that it totally depends on the family in the first place...parents can raise their children on the love of their country so they'd do the same with their kids & thus their loyalty remains to one country only; their mother country, others, all they think about is leaving the country & not looking back & of course without consideration to their grandfathers & great grandfathers who fought & died for this country!...it depends on how you raise your kids, whether you live in Egypt or anywhere else.

theres no reason. i have a Lebanese and American passport. and i never use the Lebanese one, because the american passport gets me into any country without having to get a visa beforehand
