For a "clone effect", you need two things:
- a tripod
- good multitrack video editing software (the sort you pay around $100 for)
For best results, rehearse both scenes in advance, and shoot them at the same time of day. If your camera has a remote, use it so you don't have to touch the camera (this keeps the separate clips visually aligned).
Then it is just a matter of stacking both scenes in separate video tracks, masking part of one track to let the other show through, and making sure the timings match.
If you intend to have the clones interact with each other (touching, combat, etc.) or closer than simple masking can accomplish, you will need more powerful (and expensive) software like Adobe After Effects.

I'd like to recommend AVS Video Editor to you, I always use it to edit video and make funny video for uploading to Youtube, it's easy to use and the quality is awesome, you can crop, cut, join, edit video with it easily. It also embeds many special effects, you can even add text to video or add background music, that's pretty cool. It worth a try
