What does "stagger" mean in racing terminology?

Update:

@ Maggie - I guess I was just looking in the wrong dictionary. I really loved Jim Croce and every one of his songs.

Update 2:

@ know it all ~ that was the definition I found when I was looking for what stagger means.

    Everybody has this right, but not really.. lol

    Stagger is the difference between the circumference of the left side tires, and the right side tires.. The right side tires are built with a larger circumference to help the car turn.. If you lay a Dixie Cup on it's side,with the narrow end on the left, and try to roll it, the cup will turn to the left..

    What seems to be confusing the others is, that back before radial tires, a Crew Chief could change the stagger by adjusting air pressure.. The sidewalls on the tires used to actually stretch.. With radial tires that is no longer the case.. The tire manufacturer has to build the stagger into the sidewall..

    Staggers Definition

    It means Kasey Kahne left his pass out in his car again and has tried to get by the guards without proper credentials.

    Seriously : )

    Stagger is a concept that has largely been eliminated with the use of radial tires. It refers to the difference in tire circumference between the left- and right-side tires on the vehicle. Typically, the left-side tires would be a smaller circumference than the right-side tires to "help" the vehicle make left-hand turns.

  • Ok the guys all know.. but I was thinking "switched". I just used the word "stagger" in another answer and I meant it as "to arrange otherwise than at the same time".;

    I'm not positive but thinking off common sense it could mean the horse was stuck behind other horses and they couldn't get around.
