netbook or laptop?....?

Whats the difference between a laptop and a netbook?

What are netbooks used for?

Which one (laptop or netbook) would be better for video editing? I need it to be fast and not take forever/freeze up all the time. I don't want to spend a lot of money ;P

A netbook is meant to be a secondary computer that is (a) portable (b) able to accomplish basic tasks with relative ease (c) has a number of networking options, with internet access being the most basic and (d) a significant battery life - although standard three cell netbook batteries seem to last about as long as standard six cell laptop batteries. They're basically just used to browse the web, check e-mail and do some homework while on the go. The biggest differentiator imho is the size: anything that is 11 inches and below is probably a netbook, while anything bigger than that is probably a laptop.

Video editing is one of the most memory and processor-intensive tasks that you can ask of a computer and you certainly can't do it efficiently on a netbook. Their processors (usually Intel Atom) are just too weak. Netbooks are okay for basic tasks, but they are certainly not "fast". I would normally recommend Macs for stuff like video and photo editing, but if price is a big factor then those are definitely out of the picture. If you want a fast notebook for a relatively cheap price, you might want to try looking at laptops with dual core processors. They've become cheaper since the release of the new i3, i5 and i7 Intel chipsets, but they're still as fast as before. Bestbuy is selling some for C$600 and below.

a laptop is actually a computer and a netbook is a stripped down laptop for only the most basic of net browsing and emails, etc.

the only people i personally know who are actually satisfied w/ a mac say so w/ reasons like "i'v ealways used one" or "i just like it more" and can't actually cite and real reason it's 'better'...

poeple who know better can tell you that a similar or better 'pc' laoptop or computer can be had even cheaper and w/o the hassle of the limits mac puts on you.

For video editing, buy a mac, those are used to make music and videos. A net book is just a really small version of a laptop, and a laptop is just a laptop. Buy a Mac.
