Do you think the Jets will make the playoffs?

I don't think the New York Jets are going to make the playoffs for the following reasons...

1. Lost players: Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, Alan Flaneca... Don't think that's going to damage that #1 rushing football team? WRONG.

2. Revis holdout... distraction for the football team, and if he doesn't come back soon... that's BIG trouble...

3. Injury question... Kris Jenkins is a key part to that 3-4 defense, he's the DT. But he faces plenty of injuries, like last year, their middle year stretch, they struggled without him. If he stays healthy, that will help maybe prove me wrong...

4. Mark Sanchez. Big question now, he has to step up BIG this year, now that rushing attack won't be as effective. He's a little undersized, and didn't have good numbers last year. I know he was a rookie last year and thrown in a bad situation, but they we're 31st in passing yards. The rushing attack made up for it, but still a big question mark, even if Santonio Holmes is there now.

5. Biggest reason: BRUTAL SCHEDULE, especially at home... Don't believe me? Here's the list of them: vs. Baltimore, vs. New England, vs. Minnesota, vs Green Bay, vs Houston, vs. Cincinnati, @ New England, @ Pittsburgh... and don't forget Miami is no easy task twice. I bargain that they lose at least 5 of those games. I understand that they are a good team, don't get me wrong, you will have your own opinion, just like I have mine. I'm just trying to see if anyone else has noticed these factors... The link http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/nyj/n%E2%80%A6

Remember, this team barely made the playoffs last year. Give them credit, they made it, but 9-7 won't cut it this year, guarantee.

Update:

Holy 8329bgduag9aoigurbaiu gbiurabiupgbruabopuigr wow top 3 D without Revis? WOW. And by the way, they we're 8th in run defense, and without Kris Jenkins, look out, that will hurt. With out Revis, they WILL NOT BE THE #1 DEFENSE/PASS DEFENSE.

And I LOVEEEE how you didn't give me a record and didn't even acknowledge the schedule, major factor why they made the playoffs last year.

Update 2:

Wow Rexual Healing, not gonna lie, you made some good points there, but I'm waiting for Mark Sanchez to prove it. Say what you want about Shonn Green, he can't just replace Thomas Jones. Most underrated back in the league.

1- Thomas Jones was a product of their offensive line, pure and simple. He's not fast, not powerful, and isn't very shifty. He is durable and knows how to hit holes, but he's only as good as his offensive line. Shonn Greene is far more explosive and exciting. They managed to have the #1 rushing attack in the NFL without Leon Washington last year, so as much as I love him I'm not overly concerned. Alan Faneca was by far their worst pass blocker, and wasn't that much of a factor in the running game. The Jets ran the vast majority of their runs to the right side, which is still intact.

2- Whether or not the Revis holdout will be a distraction remains to be seen, and is impossible to evaluate, so I guess fair enough.

3- "They struggled without [Kris Jenkins]" is just plain old wrong, as Sione Pouha played very well filling in and the defense didn't miss a beat. Kris Jenkins dropped 30 pounds this offseason, so he should be in much better shape. He'll miss a few games, but if Pouha can do what he did last year they will be fine, and Rex Ryan has a track record of getting production out of very average players.

4- Sanchez is a question mark, but he played pretty well for spurts last year and obviously looked great in the playoffs. He has all the weapons he needs to take the next step, which is all that offense needs to be really legit.

5- The schedule is tough, but most of their tough games are in the Meadowlands, the only tough away game (outside the division) being the Steelers.

They have a lot of question marks, but they also have as much talent as any team in the NFL.

It all starts with their defense, the strength of which is their secondary, which has three cornerbacks that can man up on any given receiver (including arguably the best at the position) and a stable of reliable though unspectacular safeties. As talented as their secondary is they also a very good linebacking corps and defensive line.

Bart Scott and David Harris are arguably the best inside linebacker duo in the NFL, Calvin Pace is a very good jack of all trades linebacker on the strong side and they have a run stopper in Bryan Thomas and a pass rusher in Jason Taylor to rotate on the weak side.

Their defensive line is also very solid. Kris Jenkins will probably miss a few games, but when he's healthy he's one of the most disruptive nose tackles in the NFL and Sione Pouha played very well filling in for him last year. Shaun Ellis is a legit top 10 3-4 defensive end and Mike DeVito and Marques Douglas had a very effective rotation going on last year and they're actually trying Vernon Gholston as a 3-4 DE, so though none are spectacular it shouldn't hold them back. Rex Ryan has a track record of getting mediocre linemen to produce, so I'm not worried too much about that.

They also have one of the best defensive coaches in recent memory whose scheme alone generates a decent amount of pressure, even without a legitimate pass rusher whose not far past his prime.

The offense has one of the best lines in the NFL and a trio of receivers that could be the #1 on many teams (maybe "only" around 5 or 6 for Cotchery). The health of the running backs may be an issue, but with a line like that it won't really matter who's taking the handoffs for them to be at the very least effective on the ground. Sanchez obviously needs to prove that he can keep the complete meltdowns to a minimum, but all things considered he was far more inconsistent than bad. In weeks 4, 6 and 11 he threw 11 of his 20 interceptions. So that's 9 picks in his other 12 starts, a more than acceptable clip for a rookie QB, and if he plays around that same level on a consistent basis their offense will put up more than enough points to consistently win.

I probably come off as a huge homer, but though I've always loved the Jets I've never before had much faith in them, and definitely not to the extent that I'd see them winning 10+ games.

But knowing the Jets they'll find some way to screw it up.

    1. Alan Faneca was not a good pass blocker...Our running game might not be as strong but our passing game will be stronger...And Shonn Greene did carry the load well during the playoffs..

    2. With the Revis holdout, Antonio Cromartie(Alcrotraz) has been playing more of the field and has done phenomenal at training camp....Revis' holdout has revived a once great corner to shake the rust off and be a playmaker again...and the team doesnt really care its not that much of a distraction.

    3. Sione Pouha replaced Jenkins beautifully during last season and he will be interchanged with Pouha this season...We have good depth at the line and Kris Jenkins has said he's completely recovered and we had in the top 5 rushing defense even without Kris Jenkins.

    4. It's true Mark Sanchez is a question but he has looked very sharp in camp and is hitting Dustin Keller and Braylon Edwards for big yards, hes become the leader of this team and is also playing behind the best O-line arguably in the NFL....I think he will do fine this year and the pressure isnt completely on him with the best defense and great rushing attack.

    5. They will not lose 5 home games....Home games are an advantage, its a good thing they play the difficult teams at home and last year the jets beat the Bengals twice, and the texans and Patriots....

My main reason is the jets got into the playoffs last year and they are a much better team this year.

Look you have it all wrong here

    1. No it wont hurt the number 1 rushing. Shonn Green will be the work load and LT coming out of the backfield is good veteran leadership. Don't forget McNight.

    2. Jets are stacked bud, Revis or not expect them to be a top 3 D

    3. Really? Jets were #1 last year without Jenkins

    4. Mark Sanchez doesn't need to have a big season for the Jets to make the playoffs. Running and good D is there style. Look at last year.

    5. they win the division

EDIT: Jets get 10-11 wins this year easy

    1. They may have lost Jones and Washington, but Shonn Green is a great back and Tomlinson will be good for the short situations. Flaneca is a big loss though

    2. Revis is overrated as of now. He only had one good season. I say don't give him the contract

    3. Jenkins does need to stay healthy. He's a bigger key to the D than Revis

    4. Sanchez had an average rookie season statistcally speaking, but he does need to lessen the importance of the running game by pulling through with his passing

    5. That is a tough schedule, but they have a good enough defense to win at least 10 games.

yall can spit out the stats you read online all you want but the fact of the matter is this. rex ryan is not a good coach. they have a bunch of drama queen players and suspect quarterback. and the jets may have gained some good players this year but guess what..... so did the rest of the league! go friggin figure

Crazy enough I think it just comes down to Revis crazy he was a huge part of the Jets offense.

    With Revis: Yes

    Without Revis: Probably not

They did only make it last year because the colts gift wrapped it for them. That being said, they will need to have a bit of luck to take a wildcard spot.

  • 1 decade ago

They can but Mark Sanchez has to step it up.. But yeah they got Ladainian Tomlinson this year yeah they WILL make it this year.. but idk about the Superbow!
