Photosnethesis with only ultraviolet light ?

Will normal plant life employing photosynthesis survive without some direct sunlight, or can it be sustain by ultraviolet radiation alone ?

For instance, suppose there was deep, extended and long- persistent (water vapor/mist) cloud cover.

Update:

Thanks

So what are the "plant lights" which are sometimes used with potted plants ? Or would they just be supplementary and not work in a place like a cave ?

The plant lights used for indoor plants are similar to regular light bulbs or fluorescent tubes that you use, they just produce more light in the wavelengths that plants use most for photosynthesis (blue and red areas of the spectrum): http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Biology...

Plant lights can be used on their own in a windowless room (or even a cave, providing you have a generator or a long extension cord). But any light, not just plant lights will work, as long as the light puts out light of sufficient intensity in the required wavelengths and the plant is close enough to the source to make use of the light. I've personally used grow lights, cool fluorescents, full-spectrum fluorescents, and fluorescents with UV (reptile lights) for growing plants in my office, as well as a unit in my basement which is underground. All will grow plants, but I would say from personal experience that I've gotten the best results with the full-spectrum, or full spectrum in combination with the grow lights.

UV light is not used in photosynthesis.

It cannot be performed with chlorophile, but pigmins might..
