Blown calls. Blown calls. and more blown calls? Instant replay anyone?

It seems like everyday, we are seeing umpires are continuing to make the wrong calls in games, some of them proving the outcome of the game. So what do you think? Should we continue to have the "human" element of the game in MLB where umpires make the calls, or should MLB to instant replay on disputed fielding calls? What would you do if you were in Bud Selig's position?

Update:

In description **should MLB SWITCH to instant replay (left out a word)

There should be some kind of replay, why don't we just have 1 or 2 challenges per team per game. I don't think it will add that much time. I understand others reasoning for not wanting it, and I can definitely appreciate that, but I want something.

If the man is safe at 2nd, but he's called out why not have one or two challenges? I mean a pitcher gets robbed of a perfect game that would have been overturned if there were challenges allowed. And the ump felt horrible about it...and he's one of the best, if not the best umps in baseball.

I just want something, I'm tired of the human element being the final word at ALL times. 1 or 2 challenges that's it.

In postseason extend it to more.

For now, I would have to say no. Blown calls will always be a part of the game........the majority of clown calls actually aren't that bad, considering the umpire has to make the call quickly. There are only a couple in a given year where it's very obvious to the naked eye. Over a 162 game season, the calls wil leven out, like Eric said.

However, I do think replay should be used in the playoffs on anything but balls and strikes. That's definitely a time when no one wants to win/lose a game because of a call.

  • I don't know about instant replay, The umpires with the calls this season have just been terrible, and they need instant replay. Instant replay is probably going to help with some calls, but they used instant replay on a Jim Thome homer last night and they got it wrong. So I don't really know if they should use instant replay.

Being a Tiger fan, we seem to get a lot of bad calls. But I still don't think instant replay is the answer. I think that MLB should spend more money an training umpires.

It's long overdue, after the perfect game mistake by Jim joyce, and the same kind of mistake the same night at the twins game, it is needed. If it takes a little longer, oh well, i'd rather have a longer far game, then a shorter blown call game, but as long as people like some of the people on this question are ignorant and close minded, it will be hard to get. But I think it is just a matter of time.

I think instant replay would be the best solution. From my perspective, I just think the umps are reluctant to reverse the calls because it is easier said than done and therefore they don't want to waste their time reviewing it. Even if MLB did have instant replay, the managers can argue all they want if a call doesn't go their way.

NOOOO!!! not for 162 games. I can't stand the thought of it. I know there have been awful calls lately, but I've always believed that over the course of 162 games, the calls will all even out (unless you're a Tigers fan this year, they've been screwed over too many times) But no, I don't want instant replay in the regular season. Get it in the postseason tho, you have to get it right then. All I can remember from last season's playoffs was Joe Mauer's shot down the 3rd base line that was fair, and was called foul. It screwed the twins out of evening the Series up going back to Minnesota. There just isn't enough time for calls to even out in the playoffs, so you HAVE to implement that ASAP. If I was Bud Selig, I'd put in instant replay in the postseason. Not just homers, but everything is reviewable (besides balls and strkes)

I think there should be a challenge system for managers. And they only go into instant replay if a manger challenges a call on the field, just like in the NFL.

You would think the umps are missing calls on purpose just so they can extend instant replay. Most calls that they've missed are so obvious. I was against instant replay since it started to get talked about. Now im 100% for it, there are just so many missed calls, game changing calls. Its embarrising.

If they can't get it right, bring on the lasers and robots!

They can use that Fox Tracks for balls and strikes.

It'd be hard to use it for fair or foul though, especially with runners on base. Where do you put everyone?

And last night, as you know, they got the call wrong even with instant replay. Seeing that call, they need to pass an easy science test so they know that if a ball bounces UP, it hit off the top of something.
