what is "nori" when making home sushi?
i was reading how to make home sushi,, and they said to use something called nori.. and this is the thing that covers the rice and fish.. so what is it called in English please..and where would i find it at stores?? and can it be made at home?? thank you!

Nori is thin, dried seaweed sheets. Go to an Asian market. No, you can't make at home.

Nori is actually a type of algae. You won't find it under an english name because it is a japanese product (you'll just see plastic bags labeled, "Nori). It's the dark green stuff that is the wrapper for what's called maki, or sushi rolls (as opposed to nigiri, which is just fish on a little clump of rice). It has kind of a salty flavor and can usually be found at any Asian food market, though recently, it's begun to pop up in a lot of general grocery stores. You can't actually make nori at home because it is a naturally occurring substance, but if you can't find it at the store, you can at least buy it online-- it's not that expensive.

Dried seaweed made into sheets, used in making sushi or as topping in certain dishes like miso soup.

It's seaweed. You may be able to find it in the international section of grocery stores, or at asian stores.
