2004 Acura MDX fuel filler door stuck?

My gas compartment door is stuck! Pryed it open with a flat screw driver - had no choice since I am hundreds of miles away from home in the middle of the night and need to fill up.

The cable is still connected to the release handle but does not pull the plastic thingy that holds on to the fuel door latch.

Where to I access the other end of the cable, is it in the rear cargo area, or under the wheel well?

Update:

Already removed the front driver door sills - cable still connected to the lever but I dont see any movement in the filler door latch mechanism. I was wondering if someone has actually done it.

I would access the other end of the cable at the release lever its probably just out of adjustment or needs to be pulled harder.if you really want to get at it bad ya pull the inner fender liner off Hope ya didn't mess up your paint too bad with a screwdriver ,also try having someone press in on it when you pull the lever.Actually that or just leave it open until its fixed by someone who knows what they are doing put tape over the latch or dissable it somehow .Good luck.
