Small toddler classroom?

I work for an Early Head Start program in the two year old room. This year I have a new classroom that's less than half the size of my old one. Typically I would have 6 centers: manipulatives, blocks, art, science, dramatic play, and literacy. Now, I can only fit about 3 shelves in the room. Does anyone have any creative ideas for organizing and creating centers in a tiny room?

    1. Put books all around the room instead of just in a literacy area.

    2. Dual purpose the tables. Instead of a cute little table in housekeeping put one of the tables the children use for meals etc. .

    3. Hang shoebags on the wall to hold items such as small trucks and cars, dress-up shoes and accessories, people and other accessories for the blocks and small stuffed animals.

    4. Make a stove out of a small plastic dresser. Decorate the top with burners and store the dishes, pots and pans, and play food in the drawers.

    5. Make an easel out of pvc pipe and plexiglass and attach it to the top of a shelf with flanges.

    6. If possible, move the children's cubbies out into the hall. Keep their diapering supplies and a change of clothes in a plastic shoebox on a shelf above the changing area.

    7. Use the carpet in the block area for circle time and any other group times.

I hope that the smaller room at least means a smaller group!

My baby is purely 11 months, yet I even have worked interior the baby care field for 5 years. My suggestion could be to get his interest, get down at his point, get him to look you interior the eyes, and intensely firmly tell him "no". If he keeps to do it, or gets mad at you, i could detect a place the place he could have an afternoon holiday. I disagree with putting him in his crib, because of the fact then he will learn how to associate his crib with being naughty. Going to mattress should not be linked with punishment, for my section. in case you are trying this, he will think of he has misbehaved any time you place him to mattress or for naps! i could have a mat or little carpet set aside someplace the place you will supervise, and use that as his "day holiday mat". shop putting him back on it until eventually he's now no longer disillusioned and could play nicely. If he acts out back, back on the mat, until eventually you because of the fact the grownup and determine settle on while his day holiday is performed. (no longer too long nevertheless, purely a couple of minutes at this age is an eternity!) stable luck, and remember that consistency is the main suitable difficulty! and many effective reinforcement while he's enjoying severe-high quality and not hitting. you're able to need to "capture" him being stable extra advantageous than you're catching him being naughty!

Use the tops of cabinets/bookshelves to store boxes of supplies. Hang a hammock to hold stuffed animals and dolls. Stack toys in milk crates. Hang the coats in the hallway. Keep duplicate toys.

You might be able to hang some things from the ceiling.
