S3 Spyder Arctic Questions.?

Ok, im a laser freak (just like having them and burning stuff) and wondering why the S3 Spyder Arctic from Wicked Lasers is so cheap. And if anyone knows is the output really 1 watt? I was thinking its probably only around 700mw, still good. And if anyone owns one, is it worth owning. It can burn about anything right? Should i get this laser?

It is so cheap because it uses a simple laser diode assembly, the diode taken straight out of a Casio projector. 1W isn't all that much for a diode. There are no laser crystals inside, so that drops the price dramatically. The output seems to be around 750-1000mW, according to the early reviews. It can burn a lot of things, but white things. I hear it has problems burning through white paper. It lights black sharpied paper on fire though.

Also the beam seems to be square, meaning the laser is actually not TEM00, as WL's site suggests. Beam diameter is off, the divergence seems bad as well.

I really hope you have experience with lasers this powerful, because this one is NOT a toy. IF you decide buy one, keep it locked away in a safe place, and I would never ever trust anyone else but myself with it. A direct eye shot can damage your vision before your eye reacts by blinking, at distances up to ~270m (as i recall).

Also, I ordered the S3 in June (price then was $200), after months of waiting, I opted for the G2 version (with safety features - SmartSwitch). I was in the first few thousand orders, and I still haven't received mine yet.
