Just how does a impact wrench work and do you have to have a wrench to fit the nut?

For instance, if you have a 1-1/4 inch nut or bolt, do you have to have a 1-1/4 inch impact wrench?

thanks

when you say impact wrench remember it's really more of a GUN than a wrench. They are air powered the most popular drive size is 1/2 inch so to work with an impact gun you need an air compressor and a set of 1/2 inch drive sockets or at least the particular size you need for the job

An impact wrench works sort of like a jackhammer. It works on a pulsating principle which delivers large amounts of torque w/ minimal force to the user. You can use a 1/2" impact as long as you have a 1-1/4 inch impact socket to fit it. 1/2" is the most common 'drive' size.

Trying to help you picture it...put them together in this order.

(1/2inch drive impact wrench)=(connects to)=(1/2inch drive 19mm socket)=(connects to)=(19mm bolt or nut that you want to tighten or remove)

You have a certain drive size of your impact wrench. And you can buy a set of sockets that fit your impact wrench.
