Is is bad to tell door knockers I am Jewish?

Door-to-door religion salesman come to my house about every other week to try and recruit me. Saying 'no thank you' and 'I am not interested' has only prompted more questions or cajoling. So now I say that I am Jewish and I don't do the whole new testament thing. (This is really useful as door knockers are in the New Testament camp.) So what if I am a big fat liar, it's a great time saver right?

Does that get them to go away? If so, I might use it. I just tell them "I'm not interested AS I am closing the door and/or I don't open it at all. Seems to me that they would REALLY try to get you to convert if you told them you are Jewish. Try, "I'm not interested but I'd like to talk to YOU about MY religion..." My brother has done that and then tend to scurry away.

If you're not Jewish, then don't say you are please. It's not good for yourself to present a lie. And it's not good for Jews to have someone pretending to be one in a situation where it might (it might) come through as negative. We have enough hassle to deal with.

I'm with Scaredrys on this -- saying your Jewish usually gets MORE & obsessive interest in converting you.

I find no thank you & closing the door & ranting outloud to myself for a minute works well. I also tell them I have 3 flights of stairs & trouble walking them & didn't appreciate them ringing the bell -- I've gotten a apology out fo that one (it's true.)

I tell them I like my beliefs & am happy, they tend to leave on that one.

If you're a liar, then yes it is a problem. I cordially invite you to look at Revelation 21:8.

As for the door knockers, perhaps you could try shutting the door in their face after they express disappointment in an answer such as "No, thank you" or "I am not interested". If it's your door, you possess authority to do such a thing. If they persist in such harassment (e.g., not taking no for an answer, or continue knocking on the door after clearly telling them you don't want any affiliation with them), there's always 911.

These mormon boys kept coming to my house once because I have three roommates, and I suppose they wanted to talk to all of us, I have no idea.

But after a couple months and after I'd seen these two over three times myself, I told them flat out that I'm a militant atheist and do not want to be indoctrinated by their religious dogma. They stood there for a moment, and then I said good day to them and closed the door.

I find that the best course of action is to tell them that you have got all day, but you will only listen to them talk about their beliefs if you can spend equal time talking about yours. So far all but one person coming house to house have made quick excuses and left. The one who stayed was a Mormon, and we had an interesting conversation.

No, it's not "bad". The Jehohvah's Witnesses will then just try to sell you their religion from a different angle. They practically follow a script from a book of theirs called "Reasoning from the Scriptures".

Fortunately I hadn't have them return to my place. Maybe answering the door while wearing my pentagram necklace had something to do with that.

Thats OK - I was REALLY bad - I told some JWs that I worshipped Satan- I never saw them again but being a Christian I may have some explaining to do.
