swollen bee sting, could it be infected in a day?

Last night my son got stung by some type of bee. My husband was home, he said he didn't see the stinger. I can see where he got stung...on the back of his hand. The whole back of his hand is swollen from his wrist to below his knuckles.

Is this normal, could it be infected already? We gave him claritin last night and tonight.(we didn't have benedryl, I think it is the same type of drug(antihistimine.)

OK in a Med student close to graduating and ur best bet is to go get benedryl and have it on hand and also it sound like ur son might be allergic to bees ur best bet is to either call the doc and/or go to the emergency department and the stinger might still be in his skin just not visible cause of all the swelling
